I am done with it.

This fair attracts both traditional art fair lovers and those that did not realize that they love fine art.  We focus on work that is a bit less traditional, art that invites conversation.  Don't be mistaken though, it is a juried fine art fair.  Work must be of the highest quality and made by the artist.  Check the website to see last year's art to see how your work fits in.

Fashionable Ferndale's downtown is a thriving business community with distinctive boutiques and bistros. The lively atmosphere attracts young upwardly mobile professionals. This show is designed to provide a showcase for artists that have work that appeals to that group. As Detroit continues its comeback Ferndale becomes an even more desirable area.

A healthy advertising budget along with extensive marketing and news coverage brings out the art lovers.

Denver St Patrick's Parade

Hope everyone had a terrific St Patrick's Day!  Since it was the 50th anniversary of the Denver Parade, we went all out.  Bellco Credit Union sponsors us in the parade.  Thank you Bellco!  Our four Giant Parade Puppets were festooned with shamrocks and green trim.  I rode my new stilt bike, featuring a red headed Leprechaun made by Cory Gilstrap. http://www.facebook.com/cory.gilstrap I mounted him on the handle bars with a pot o gold just out of reach of the grasping Leprechaun !  Photos and stilt bike riding practice video here:  http://stiltwalker.com/states/colorado/denver/50th-saint-patricks-day-parade-denver/

I didn't give Cory a huge budget, but he was very gracious to work with my budget and deliver on time.  I was/am very happy with the yet unnamed Leprechaun. (any ideas?)   Both the free hand, and the out stretched leg as well as the head are all pose-able.  Cory also provided the Pot o Gold.  After the parade I did sew on some more gold coins.  The thrift store fishing pole, which I provided, I also shortened in preparation for next year's parade.

Youtube has some video of the parade with our Giant Parade Puppets, one video even catches me on my stilt bike gliding by.

http://youtu.be/DCHMxZhiR_o

http://youtu.be/2fN7NEMI2es

Every year the Denver Post prints in the paper and online a photo of one of our Giant Puppets .  this year I couldn't find us online, but the daily had a photo of one of our puppets on the Friday before the parade, and the YourHub weekly insert had a terrific photo of all four Parade Puppets!  Best photo ever published!  Yea!

I'm enjoying reading all of the festival reviews, hope you enjoy this somewhat off topic post.

Cheers!

Starting a new Journey

Hard to believe that I will starting University on Monday! Seems like only yesterday that I was walking into an auditorium filled with people to not only receive my Associates Degree, but to watch as my son received his. No greater Mother's Day gift could I have asked for nor received. This time I am going for my Bachelor's. A few of the classes will be taken at the local Community College, while the rest will be online. The only time I will have to be "on campus" is to attend graduation, if I so desire.Work on my studio renovations are coming along nicely and, hopefully, by the time summer arrives, I'll be installing furniture, organizing and letting the creative juices out of their cage! Yesssssss!!!!!! I am trying to figure out a way that I can put up a web site that covers what I do, and presents it in its best light. Any ideas?Tomorrow I go to file my Business taxes for the very first time. This could prove to be very entertaining in that I have everything but the kitchen sink in my briefcase. I just KNOW I'm going to forget something. I never knew all the hoops one had to jump through just to try to promote the arts as a business or promote YOUR art as a business. I have lots of projects to do and people to contact regarding possible job relationships, but first I need a website in order to do some of the things that are wanted.I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, Happy Chaunaka, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!! May the year of 2010 find each and every one of you enjoying all the very best that life has to offer.Namaste - Terri at the Drake's Nest where a Giant River Otter has been playing in my pond.

After thirty years of making quilts professionally, Pamela began to explore the possibilities of creating that long desired densely textured work with relatively new technology that has enabled her to create subtle contemporary textured, color nuanced and sophisticated bed covers that are beautiful as well as useful. The combination of dense textures through the intricate piecing of fabric and the use of pima cottons, linens, silks and rare African, Japanese and Indian traditional silks and cottons lend the fabric her signature touch. Any body else hiding in the woods?

I like that there is a new site for us! I'm terrible with the computer, but this was really easy.I know that no one has a crystal ball, but I don't know if I should book shows , hoping the economy will have improved , or just hide out , "til the coast is clear. After all show fees etc, are the most expensive things in my budget.Of course I'm applying for the tried and true ones, but "filler "shows instead of staying home?Any encouraging news out there?Beth here

Turn off the Brain Chatter

“It is so much fun exploring each new small advance. Magic happens with a series. It’s wonderful to trust your inner instincts and turn off the brain chatter now and then.” -Jean BradleyDid Jean Bradley really say; “turn off the brain chatter now and then” ? Brain chatter, what a wonderfully interesting way of describing the constant barrage of information that plays like a movie reel in my mind. Brain chatter.
