Facebook Pages

I would like to hear how many of the artists have a Facebook Page in addition to a Website? I have just recently put together a Facebook Page for my Photo business, but have not received much traffic.

Please review my page at R2Q Photography and let me know what I might do to increase traffic.

  • I use my FB biz page to promote both my blog and my webstore.  I have FB set up so that when I make an entry on the biz page, it automatically gets tweeted so I am accessing multiple social media platforms with a single action (huge time-saver).  My blog features articles on gems, jewelry and precious metals (I'm a jeweler) and contains a link to my webstore (as does my FB biz page).  Cross-promotion is key to one's visibility, and interesting content helps to keep you relevant in the minds of existing and potential/future patrons.   Here's the link to my FB page (which includes link to blog in the daily teaser)

  • The thread that Larry is referring to was great - but apparently it was deleted automatically when the person who started it left AFI.   I see Connie has started a new one

Lets start adding ours again :)

  • Ron, YES, YES, YES to Facebook pages for artists! Larry's link to setting up a Facebook page is very good. We wish more artists would set them up. Less than half currently have them. When we are approaching one of our festivals, we search for artists' Facebook pages and repost some of their posts on our festival Facebook pages to start creating excitement for our events. That artist is then getting exposure to everyone who has liked our pages. We have it set up so that artists can also post directly on our pages. The power of Facebook marketing and Pages is amazing!

  • Ron, I couldn't find your facebook page.  Just letting you know.

  • I would definitely recommend not using regular, personal page for your business.  You first must have a personal page, then you start a separate page for your business.  I have two business pages.

On a personal page, people have to send friend requests.  On a business page, they just simply "like" your page.  This is great for most folks who want to follow your art, not stories about your family, dogs or other personal information.  I find it quite frustrating when someone uses a personal page as I don't want a friend, I just want to be a fan who follows their art, show, convention, etc.

And, like everything online, you have to bring people to your Facebook page.  And people want to follow you there because you give them a simple way to see your new art, hear about your show, or as I do, show progress photos of paintings. I also hold giveaways or contests.

I am a pet portrait artist and the latest contest was a "Best Smile" photo contest.  People submitted their photos, and everyone was able to vote.  The winners received a free, one face doggie caricature. This created a lot of talk about my art, and I received over 100 new likes and two orders for $40 in art.  I thought that was pretty good!  And I may get future custom pet portraits in the future!  I don't always get that much results at shows I do! LOL!

There are many ways to get more likes, but one of the big ones is a link on your website!  And tell everyone about your facebook page.  I hope this helps a bit!

  • Hi Ron... I have both. The website is pretty straightforward and I will be adding an e-commerce function with a shopping cart soon. www.brettghall.com

The facebook page is more for followers. I use it to tell of new showings, new pieces, and to relate stories about our journeys as art fair gypsies. www.facebook.com/brettghallart.

The great thing about the Facebook page is that you can see results of what posts get attention and build a following. See the attached image... a new high for me! Go check out the page and see how we have used it as something of an art fair diary301652197?profile=original

  • You need to post a link to your Facebook page. No one is going to go searching.

There was a massive thread on sharing Facebook likes sometimes last year. Everyone liked everyone else's page. That you might be able to do a search for. Check the Internet marketing forum:

  • Hi Ron, check out Amy Porterfield. She has a website, blog, podcasts, etc on how to use facebook to promote your business geared towards small businesss. Lots of free info there. It has a lot to do with getting people to share your page, rankings, etc. wish it was all about the art but it is more about the technical part of FB and getting those shares and likes using specific techniques. And make sure you watermark the photos on FB or someone can simply right click and copy your works. I had to take off all my photos from mine to go back and watermark. Have not put them back up yet since my PC has issues now. Sigh!
  • Hi Ron, I tried to get R2Q Photography to come up without success so sent a friend request. It looked like you on FaceBook and there was wildlife photo there. You can follow how I use Facebook on my business and personal pages better than verbslizing it. When people see what I am doing for others in the studio, it piques their interest in having me do something for them.
