Mock Jury on Zoom - 2 weeks until deadline

Holding a mock jury on Zoom. Submissions open until March 31.
Please share this with your artist friends.

Jurors will be two show directors.

Images can be sent by either e-mail, Dropbox shared to my e-mail address Larry@bermanart.com or mail me a CD or flash drive. They must be named in the order they are to be viewed with a number (1 through 5 with 5 being the booth), your first and last name as part of the file name. Do not just drop the 5 images into an e-mail and expect them to remain in the order you put them in because when I take images from an e-mail they automatically sort by alphabetical order with numbers before letters.

If you’re having a difficult time organizing your jury images (like on a phone or tablet) please give me a call. 412-401-800. I’ll organize them for you if you send them in one at a time by e-mail with the image number and your name in the subject of the e-mail.

If you don't have a booth picture you can submit an additional art image as number 5. It will be shown below and to the right where the booth image is located in the template. The images can be any size larger than the size I need for the template which is 400x400 pixels. I've created an action in Photoshop to format the images to drop into the template. You can take your images from ZAPP if you enlarge them before saving them. Do not send me the ZAPP thumbnails, they are too small. If your images need to be edited by me, call me (412-401-8100) before sending me the images to work out what you need me to do.

A short artist statement should be included if you want it to show during the image viewing. That artist statement needs to be as editable text, either in the body of the e-mail or as a separate text file so it can be copied and pasted into the image template, not as a screen capture. Your name will not show in the jury template, only your application number, which I will assign upon receiving your submission. I will e-mail you back with your application number. Please include your name, e-mail address and phone number at the top of the artist statement so I can call your if there's a problem.

I'm charging $30 for the jury submission. It's going to take a great deal of my time to organize this and I want to pay the jurors. I will be announcing who the jurors are and their backgrounds prior to the mock jury. You can pay through PayPal to my e-mail address, call me with a credit card number or send a check. If you mail a check, please let me know when you upload the images.

I'll record the jury and if enough artists participate, I'll probably break this up into multiple sessions so the files can be downloaded. No promises but I'll try to upload it to YouTube also. Also if it works, I'll hold a second jury later in the year and show your first set before your second set so you can see changes you've made in your jury submission.

I'll be taking submissions until the end of March and then I'll put up a survey in the jury image evaluation group for choosing a day and time for the mock jury. If there's anything I've forgotten, please let me know and I'll edit this post.

Dreaming a Sale Tax Dream

If you do art fairs in more than one state you know how challenging it is to file sales tax in all the states you go to.  Some shows make it easy by giving you a form to fill in or even collect at the event but those shows are few and far between.  I've had many conversations over the years about the challenges.  I have actaully decided not to do shows in certain states because they make it too challenging.

The otherday I heard an ad on the radio for "Taxjar" and they mentioned making sales tax payments easier and it occurred to me that it woudl be a dream come true if Square (or any other sales platform) would file and pay my sales tax for each state that I show in.  I sell on Etsy and they collect and pay all my sales tax so maybe this isn't an impossible dream.  Or is it?  What are your thoughts?

I just submitted a suggestion for this idea on the Square platform so they will probably tell me if it's not possible but I'm still going to dream!

7380941e-3834-4445-8303-bd1a6924f001.jpg
The show is held in beautiful Palmer Park and is adjacent to some of the city's best neighborhoods.  Residents are professionals with huge homes and great disposable income.  Our experience is the shoppers like more traditional images, and afro-centric work also does well. Don't be afraid to bring larger work as many people have substantial historic homes.

The show winds around a pond and runs adjacent to the historic log cabin.  Artists are encouraged to get out of the tent and create installations that enhance their work and interact with the natural beauty of the park.

The "entertainment" is art projects and artist demonstrations. Patrons are invited to get their hands dirty.  All of this helps to contribute to appreciation and sales.

Why you should be here:
  • Limited to 65 artists
  • Significant paid advertising and news coverage
  • Easy drive up unloading
  • Experienced artists friendly organization
  • Free parking and RV parking

Fort Worth, Texas

The Shops at Clearfork
Friday-Saturday 10am-5pm, & Sunday 11am-4pm
90 Artists
Deadline: June 3, 2024

Application fee: $30/Booth fee: $450

The Art Worth Festival has some Texas-Sized News concerning the third-edition of our show, in Fort Worth, this October.

We are upping stakes and moving:
we've changed both our location AND dates!
12490653279?profile=RESIZE_710x

This juried festival of fine craft and fine art will be held over three days (with set up on the Thursday prior) on the park-like lawns of The Shops at Clearfork, an exclusive shopping complex, featuring Nieman-Marcus, Tiffany, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, and a number of interior design houses. The Shops at Clearfork also offer great restaurants, as well as an abundance of free parking (surface & garages) within the complex, which also includes high-end residential space.

Now, if you are wondering as to why we have arrived at our decision to move, our reasons include: guest access to free public parking; guest access to enhanced food options; built-in traffic; reduction of dust (something of a problem at our old site): the lawns at Clearfork are lush.

Additionally, The Shops at Clearfork will also be joining in promoting our show through their platforms.

"This is a new show with very big potential, in the perfect time and at the right location. I was pleasantly surprised by the traffic on Saturday, and the sales went beyond my expectations. The show promoter has a strong advertisement campaign that will help the show to grow fast, in my experience DFW metro has way more collector's potential than the few very fine arts festivals in the area could currently fulfill. Also important to mention, that it is a very artist friendly show and the quality of art is strong, which is very sufficient for a show's success. I was very happy with my experience the first two years and planning to return this fall." - Jeanne Akita, Illusions Lab

“We had great success and a wonderful experience at the Art Worth art show! Serious buyers, great setting, warm friendly management! Everything you want for a memorable and successful art show! Easy setup and tear down, great exposure and plenty of parking! So close to excellent dining and Hotels! We will be back!” –Dan and Joi LaChaussee, Blown Glass, Langley, WA

“This could be the start of something big. Good first show and second. Nice layout, great director, classical music, wine bar, and upscale ambiance. Surprisingly good sales for an opening event. Don’t miss this opportunity.” – Cathra-Anne Barker & Richard Meyer, Master Potters, Santa Fe NM"

The Potential of Psychedelics: A Promising Pathway to Mental Wellness

Psychedelics have long been a subject of fascination and controversy. From their use in ancient rituals to their emergence as a topic of scientific inquiry, psychedelics have evolved from being viewed as mind-altering substances to potential tools for mental wellness. This article delves into the wide-ranging effects and potential benefits of psychedelics, exploring their implications in the field of mental health and beyond.

Exploring the Psychedelic Experience: A Journey into Consciousness

Psychedelics, such as psilocybin (found in magic mushrooms), LSD, and DMT, have the unique ability to alter perception, cognition, and self-awareness. Many individuals who have undergone psychedelic experiences report a profound sense of interconnectedness, enhanced creativity, and a greater understanding of self and the universe.

Research into Psychedelics: Rekindling Scientific Interest

After a period of legal and social restrictions, psychedelics are once again gaining recognition in the scientific community. Researchers are beginning to unlock the potential therapeutic applications of these substances, particularly in the treatment of mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Clinical trials have shown promising results, with some studies suggesting that psychedelics can offer long-lasting benefits even after just a few sessions.

Harnessing the Therapeutic Potential of Psychedelics

Advancements in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy are leading the way in revolutionizing mental health treatments. Combining the administration of a psychedelic substance with therapeutic support has shown remarkable outcomes for patients struggling with treatment-resistant conditions.

One particularly impressive area of research involves the use of psychedelics in the treatment of depression. Traditional antidepressant medications often take weeks to show any effects, leaving patients in a state of despair. Psychedelic-assisted therapy, however, has the potential to catalyze a rapid reduction in depressive symptoms, offering new hope to those in dire need.

Another critical area where psychedelics hold promise is in the realm of addiction. Substance abuse disorders can be incredibly challenging to overcome, with high rates of relapse. Psychedelics, when combined with psychotherapy, have shown potential for breaking the cycle of addiction by facilitating transformative experiences that help individuals gain insight and a renewed sense of purpose.

But it's not just mental health disorders that psychedelics may address. Current research indicates the potential benefits of psychedelics in conditions such as cluster headaches and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Additionally, psychedelics have been suggested to enhance creativity and problem-solving capabilities, offering potential applications in the field of cognitive enhancement.

Addressing Safety and Ethical Concerns

Whenever discussing psychedelics, it is crucial to address the safety and ethical concerns associated with their use. Responsible use of psychedelics in controlled settings, under the guidance of trained professionals, is of paramount importance. Ensuring proper screening and preparation, as well as integration and follow-up support, can mitigate potential risks and enhance the overall safety of psychedelic-assisted therapies.

Furthermore, ethical considerations surrounding access and equity must be taken into account. Psychedelic therapies should be accessible to all individuals in need, regardless of socioeconomic status or background. Efforts should be made to minimize disparities and ensure equitable distribution of these potentially life-changing interventions.

The Road Ahead: Embracing Psychedelics with Caution and Potential

As the psychedelic renaissance continues, it is crucial to approach this field with both caution and potential. While the initial findings are promising, continued research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms of action and long-term effects of psychedelics.

Scientists must work alongside policymakers, regulatory bodies, and mental health professionals to craft a responsible framework for the use of psychedelics in therapeutic settings. Collaborative efforts are necessary to establish guidelines, regulations, and training programs for those involved in administering psychedelic therapies.

In conclusion, psychedelics have the potential to revolutionize mental health treatments and expand our understanding of consciousness. Properly harnessing their therapeutic effects can bring about improved well-being and provide new treatment options for those facing mental health challenges. With rigorous research, responsible use, and an unwavering commitment to ethical considerations, psychedelics may become valuable tools in our journey toward a mentally healthier society.

Recommendation: Embrace the potential of psychedelics as a promising pathway to mental wellness, fostering collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and mental health professionals to further explore and develop responsible psychedelic-assisted therapies.
