We (Artists in Action) are hosting our inaugural event in Cambridge MA on March 8 and are looking for panel options. If anyone has some we could rent or borrow, I'd so appreciate hearing from you.

We are a non-profit raising money for Dana Farmer Cancer Institute at this silent art auction with 10 artists and 50 pieces of art. We need about 6-8 panels.

And if you'd like to attend the event, check out tickets and our story on www.artistsinaction.net

Many thanks! Kira

The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is working with an advertising company to give 10 artists who live or have studios in Kalamazoo County the chance to use billboards around western Michigan as a canvas of sorts.

The museum is working with Adams Outdoor Advertising on the contest. A panel will pick 20 candidates and the public will vote to select the winners. Billboards featuring their work will rotate among sites for a year starting in May. The deadline to apply is March 14.

The museum also is holding a T-shirt design contest for the 2011 Kalamazoo Institute of Arts Art Fair, which takes place June 3-4. It's the 60th year for the event. The deadline is March 1.

Details of the contests are on the museum's website.

CERF+ and California Fires

Hi Guys, I got this email from CERF+. I've donated in the past and will again. I hope you will too and help out other artists in  need.

Dear Richard,

According to CNN and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, California has experienced its most deadly and destructive wildfires in the past two years. Longer drought periods, strong winds, and warmer temperatures have contributed to the increasing size and impact of these fires.

In 2019, more than 5,600+ fire incidents have burned 245,000+ acres in California. The Kincade Fire is 45% contained and has burned 76,825 acres – making this California’s biggest fire of the year.

In Southern California, firefighters are fighting the Getty Fire that has consumed over 745 acres on a hillside in West Los Angeles. A number of additional large fires are also tearing through the state, including the Tick Fire, Caples Fire, Oak Fire, and Palisades Fire.

In the past five years, CERF+ has provided more than 50 artists from California with close to $200,000 in emergency financial assistance and established a specific California Fund to help support these efforts.

Please help us spread the word about our emergency relief program and recovery resources to artists you know who might be affected by these fires.

If you would like to donate to the California Fund, simply follow this link to our secure online giving page and select please use my gift to help California artists working in craft disciplines from the drop-down menu. It's easy to do and only takes a minute. Your contribution will make a real and lasting difference in the lives of the artists impacted by these fires and other emergencies.

Thank you for being part of the Artists Safety Net.

Sincerely,

Cameron Baxter Lewis

The Mundelein Arts Festival is held in beautiful Kracklauer Park with both pavement and lawn spaces available. This is a juried art festival that will showcase the unique talents of 45 fine artists who work in a variety of media. The Park sits in the heart of Mundelein and is highly visible to Rte. 45. An average of 21,000 cars drive past daily.

36176d5f-5d8c-42d2-b693-1740733b7910.jpg Mundelein is a village of 31,000 people located in the northern suburbs of Chicago. An extensive network of nearby highways allows easy access to a host of neighboring cities, as well as Chicago and southern Wisconsin.

A committee of well-known judges will award a cash prize for Best of Show and Best in Category (six categories). The Kirk Players will award a $500 Emerging Artist Award. There are also Purchase Awards including the Village of Mundelein's Annual Purchase Awards.

Children can create art in the kiddie craft tent. They can buy art at the Kids-Only Secret Shopping Tent...no parents allowed (Ages 12 and under). Children can shop in a tent full of art donated by festival artists. Most pieces will be sold for $5. Proceeds benefit the Mundelein Parks Foundation.

Marketing:

TV commercials on TLC, HGTV and DIY, and Hallmark; Major newspaper advertising; Full page ad in Park District brochure; 3 town poster run; eblasts from several groups (Mundelein Community Connection, Mundelein Park District and 4 town chamber of commerce GLMV); Social media that features an artist of the day; Outdoor signage

Testimonials:
  • Bill, photographer at the show: This show is what I consider the ideal show. About 50 talented artists, this gives you time to look at each one. Yet this show has all the amenities of the large shows. It had artists that are very selected, great food on site, and wonderful background music. This allows the guests to be comfortable and able to really enjoy the art that is presented.
  •  Jim and I have participated in this show all eight years. Great show! Wonderful artists! We want to thank the entire Mundelein Arts Festival team, volunteers and sponsors for everything they do to make this such a terrific show. Hope to see you all next year!
  • The whole weekend was fantastic, great volunteer support, one of the best organized shows I've participated in. Look forward to next year.

artwork-tomhuck.jpg

etching by Tom Huck A couple of years I attended an ArtServe conference in Lansing, MI, where I heard Tom Tressor, the "Creativity Champion", exhort us to Art the Vote. Tom's mission is standing up for creativity, and encouraging creative people to seek public office. We've just been through this tremendous political activity. I know many of you were inspired by it and aren't quite ready to go back to things as they were. Are you ready to run for public office? You know someone who is? When asked what qualities people wanted to see in a leader, the responses included: - Vision - Accountability - Real leadership - Interest and knowledge of the arts - Inspiration - Problem solver - Someone who can create and share new resources - Creativity and resourcefulness - Compassion - Intelligence This post is a "heads-up" to explore this concept. Intriguing, isn't it? Visit Tom's website and see what a difference you can make, America Needs You, Really! www.tresser.com

Well folks, we are almost to the 5,000 member mark here at Art Fair Insiders.  Has anybody got any good suggestions for a great way to celebrate this fantastic milestone?  I have been thinking about it as I watch the new members join us daily.  It seems like there must be some way to have a virtual celebration.  My guess is that we will hit that 5,000 member mark by Sunday.

I remember watching us reach the 4,000 member mark.  I thought that was pretty special, too.  It is great watching this site grow and improve as we strive to help artists make a living through art.  Many of us have made many new friends here, too.  Plus, it is great being able to keep in touch with old friends that time and space have separated us from.

I wonder, who was the first person to join this site once it got rolling?

Who is responsible for bringing the most new members to this site?

Who has added the most photos here for all of us to enjoy?

Who is the biggest contributer of blogs and posts?

What has been the biggest sale ever in our Classifieds?

What was the longest post ever and what was the topic?

There is much to remember.   So, let me start the virtual toasting to a great site for artists and their work.
