In her earliest work Pamela Hill attempted to meld the strong graphic qualities of modern painting with the rich texture of the Amish quilts. After thirty years of making quilts professionally, Pamela began to explore the possibilities of creating that long desired densely textured work with relatively new technology that has enabled her to create subtle contemporary textured, color nuanced and sophisticated bed covers that are beautiful as well as useful. The combination of dense textures through the intricate piecing of fabric and the use of pima cottons, linens, silks and rare African, Japanese and Indian traditional silks and cottons lend the fabric her signature touch. A veteran of the nation's most prestigious art fairs, Pamela is a perennial prize-winner, her work is well known in the decorative arts and included in many definitive explorations of contemporary craftspeople. books widely collected and Learn more about Pamela and her custom-designed quilts and see if she will be at a show near you: www.ArtFairCalendar.com. Any body else hiding in the woods?

I like that there is a new site for us! I'm terrible with the computer, but this was really easy.I know that no one has a crystal ball, but I don't know if I should book shows , hoping the economy will have improved , or just hide out , "til the coast is clear. After all show fees etc, are the most expensive things in my budget.Of course I'm applying for the tried and true ones, but "filler "shows instead of staying home?Any encouraging news out there?Beth here

Once More Into the Breach

One can get a touch of cabin fever in Michigan this time of the year, for entertainment--read others blogs. Do you think I lead a wild life? Here is ArtFairInsider.com member Pat Sorbini's attempt to handle her off art fair hours: Well, I ask you to open my studio door at the end of the season and not imagine a war having been fought there. Really bad. Really. So, I have some time off from the theater, my first app due in 10 days, a need to keep busy, a snowstorm outside. There will be cleaning. I am going to organize. Again. There will be plastic bins and labels. Old storage stuff that never really worked is already at the curb. New shelves are ready to be filled with those labeled plastic thingys. I have the most trouble letting go of things that I may use someday maybe if just in case I might somehow.....gone. Unpainted paper castings, A book that just need a repair...for 2 years now. Mirrors with designs that just didn't work. Cast bowls that never sold, the edges cracked from schlepping to show after show. Gone. I started this year with the same cleaning spurt, but this time I am actually redoing things. For instance, my paper cutter is on a surface just about 6 inches too low so I always hurt my back when doing any prolonged cutting. That will be moved up. Things i had stored right near my work area will be stored away unless it's something I use daily. Stuff like that. And so we start again. A clean room, a clean slate. A new calendar book. New plans. Guess I should get up there. One more coffee....... Pat's blog: View from the Attic

The Park Forest Art Fair is the second oldest, continuously juried fine art fair in the Chicagoland region. For several years, the Park Forest Art Fair has been voted one of the top Five Small Town Art Fairs in the country by the ArtFairCalendar annual survey of “Best Art Fairs in America.”
11001962091?profile=RESIZE_400x
This is an extraordinarily artist-friendly fair. The downtown street provides awnings under which new and emerging artists who have not yet invested in a tent can display their artworks. Volunteers can help unload and load vehicles.

They also provide water all day, both days and can provide time for bathroom breaks. The Tall Grass Board of Directors serves breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, snacks at mid-day on Saturday and a scrumptious dinner Saturday night along with an awards ceremony.

11001963262?profile=RESIZE_400xSeveral of the artists have exhibited continuously for nearly three decades. Other, newer artists come from throughout the Midwest. A long-standing tradition at the Park Forest Art Fair, one that is loved by all of the artists, is that fair-attendees stop and chat with the artists. Artists are welcome to demonstrate their artwork techniques during the fair.

First and foremost our mission is to present the highest quality contemporary craft and fine artists, and demonstrate to our community that handmade in America is truly something special. Our aim since 1971 is making art more accessible by curating collectible works in a variety of mediums, and at a wide range of prices.

We will be adding new programming around art collecting and art advisory to encourage visitors to get help walking the show seeking specific items or art. So for anyone hiring me to photograph their artwork or improve their images, I'll do 50% when the job is finished and you can pay the balance when you can afford it, no matter how long it takes, and you can even pay me off incrementally.

Santa Clarita CA Cowbow Festival

Just joined the "Insiders" and am stoked about improving my show success.  Does anyone have info about the Santa Clarita CA Cowboy Festival?  I just learned about it last month.

I've already seen one of my pet peeves-"juried" shows that include lots of commercial vendors.

Spreading my wings - a little

Well, my studio is coming along, steady by jerks, ~2~ and I've been doing a little more with photography, basket weaving, regular weaving and fiber arts. Have uploaded some new pictures to give a better idea of some of the things I dabble in. Will be working on some larger projects as soon as I make room in my temporary studio.

Enjoying the spring/summer months break from school. Finished the spring semester with a big struggle in Algebra. Managed to pass the class with a C-, but hey, I passed and that's all I care about. Had A's and B's in rest of classes. Hopefully, the fall will be a little easier now that math is outof the way.

Gotta run, need to return a bad can of texture paint to Home Depot and see what I can find to do the rest of the walls.

Later!

Terri at the Drake's Nest in beautiful Ossineke, MI where Giant River Otters play on my pond, among other things!

If so, here you will find the perfect marriage as part of the exciting Detroit International Jazz Festival. This year the Festival celebrates it's 30th anniversary by bringing back JazzART. What is JazzART? The Jazz Fest Director, Terri Pontremoli describes it as "Art that moves, Art that grooves." Essentially art that is inspired by music. Up to 40 booths will be included in the festival which annually attracts 750,000 music lovers. The Art section will close Art Fair each evening at 7:00 pm, while the music continues through the evening. The selling of visual arts has long been associated with the Jazz Fest. JazzART had been a successful element though the event turned to a gallery oriented art show for the last few years. The return to individual booths will further increase the multi dimensional celebration of Jazz in all it's incarnations. The art fair is organized by Mark Loeb of Integrity Shows a veteran organizer of metro Detroit events. More about the Jazz Festival: www.detroitjazzfest.com Apply: www.zapplication.org

Here's a message I picked up from photographer Walt Pinkus: Quincy Jones has started a petition to ask President-Elect Obama to appoint a Secretary of the Arts. While many other countries have had Ministers of Art or Culture for centuries, the United States has never created such a position. We in the arts need this and the country needs the arts--now more than ever. Please take a moment to sign this important petition and then pass it on to your friends and colleagues.
