New website to sell from ?

Hi, Well I haven't updated my website in a long time and would now like to update it and also add the ability to sell from it? I would love any suggestions on what program to use and/or who to host it ? I need something easy to edit as I'm not a computer geek.

  • I understand about NOT being a geek.  I (not so jokingly) say that I know just enough about computers to be dangerous.  LOL

I use Etsy for my shop.  I have a domain name that redirects to my Etsy shop.  My 1st shop was opened on Jan. 8, 2015.  I have had sales since the first month, except the month of March.  I was afraid I'd get lost in the shuffle.  I find Etsy easy to use and the most important thing to get noticed is good photographs and good tags  Now, I am not making enough to say it's a "living" but I am happy to send you my monthly totals if you are interested.

One of the things I like about Etsy is the ability to copy a listing.  What I am doing now is this ... when I have multiples of something that are just slightly different I copy the original listing and just update the 1-2 things that are different, then save.

I am also on a group at Facebook for crafters who are making a go of making money from crafts.  The community there is very supportive and encouraging.  The admins work hard to keep it positive and uplifting, much like here.  Not sure what you seek but I can share that with you if you like too.

  • I have utilized Wordpress for years, cutting it over to my own domaine last year, and connected the ecommerce this year. The ecommerce service is called ecwid- easy to list, and set up. And the cool thing is ecommerce scales to mobile devices, links to my existing pay pal account, and links to shipping. I can select the shipping options to offer. Works very well. Here is my site: www.imagesinbloom.com/shop
  • Bought a computer program made for Mac its call Sandov.  I have used it now going on 4 years.  Easy to use  I use pay pal for payment  Their link is www.sasndov.com  My web site  is www.williamspens.com.

They have many different styles to choice from.   And I totally, that's 100%  not a computer person

  • I use Fine Art America.  Was super easy to set up and links with my Facebook page.

  • A year ago I signed up with Shopify for my online sales and I couldn't be happier. Easy to set up with tons of add-ons. Plus there is an ipad/iphone app and card reader that is all connected to my online store that allows me to sell at shows - so no need for Square or any other merchant account too. They have a toll-free phone number that is open 7 days a week should you need to contact customer service. I wrote a short blog post about it here.

  • I had a web designer for mine... and he maintains the site, keeps it updated to get good google search results.

  • I use Fine Art Studio Online, FASO. HERE'S THE LINK TO FASO.

  • My website was hacked so thoroughly a few months ago it was unrecoverable.  I had been going through a web designer and so she created a new one for me using WordPress and WooCommerce (for the cart).   You can buy 'skins' for Wordpress by various companies if you don't want the ones Wordpress offers.  You can get other plug-ins as approrpriate for your needs.   Although I didn't do my site, I have been nosing around in there and it seems like most of it is drag and drop and I think, even with my limited computer literacy, I could do quite a bit, if not all, of it.  There are heaps of tutorials on how to do things with both WooCommerce and Wordpress as well that are super helpful.
