  • Alison,

Did you do this show and what did  you do  about the  tent? Curious if they let you in with the EZ-Up.

  •  I do a festival where these types of tents are used. It is as Robert describes, and they are the heaviest most stable tents I have ever been in.  If I was ever not sure of the weather this is what I would want. These tents are great, worth the peace of mind $340 buys you, not to mention its already set up when you get there and you don't have to take it down. They are much heavier and stable than any light dome, trimline or craft hut.

  • The rental tents, if they are the ones I see in the back of the photo above, are the peaked top with a support pole going through the top. That lets some water in during heavy rains, BTW. The frame has two criss-crossed steel cables at the top of the frame to prevent lateral torquing in cross winds. The top pole sits on top of those crossed cables and keeps the top stretched taut so water can't pool on the top. The frames use 2 inch pipes that are pretty heavy duty.

  • I didn't apply to this show and after this I won't in the future. I use an EZ-Up that is properly weighted, has Sta-Bars, and has the display panels tied to the frame. I've been through shows that have blown Crafthuts, Trimlines, and Lightdomes down the street and a few times in dowtown Chicago the tents were never found. The simple solution is to do as Upper Arlington does and use a fire marshall to inspect installations for proper tie-downs or weighting. I've been at shows and could tell which set-ups were going to collapse when predicted storms would come through. It's not rocket science, just common sense and experience.

  • Guess I should have looked closer. They looked like an ez-up due to the roof design. Why would this design be any better then an accordion style.

  • Well he said that they didn't want the "accordion style" tents.  I ck'd the site you listed for their tent rental and they are the pipe type.  I'll keep you posted if he writes back.

  • Alison, did you mention to them that the rental tent is no different then the one you have.

  • Sent an email to Stephen King and his reply was to 1. Borrow someone's tent or 2. Rent one of theirs.  He said it was a liability issue.  I wrote back and said I could not borrow a tent, let alone set it up by myself and the rental cost is too much at $340.  I mentioned that I secure my tent quite well, use "Happy Feet" etc but he was not impressed.  Also mentioned I do have full insurance for my business.  Have not heard back from him.  I'm comtemplating writing to him and asking him to refund my app fee.  Don't know how well that will go.

  • I have that one and it's great. Oh and yah a bit cheaper!

  • The funny part here is that a heavy duty EZ-Up from Sam's Club is $200 ;-/
