I just completed my annual PCI Compliance which Clover Go requires of users. I was always skeptical of Square and others who do not require compliance. I see it as one more arrow in the defense quiver if I am ever sued over a credit card data breach. The questionnaire took an hour to complete as I did not understand most of the acronyms. I am not an IT person and they are certifying mega retail users as well as us art studio people with only a few sales. I sent them feedback about this issue. They also remotely scan your equipment and here again you really don’t know what is going on so I spoke with a rep. A few hours late I get email, I am good to go for another year. Here is what PCI Compliance is and if you are in business, it is something to consider. From: https://www.imperva.com/learn/data-security/pci-dss-certification/

"The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of security standards formed in 2004 by Visa, MasterCard, Discover Financial Services, JCB International and American Express. Governed by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC), the compliance scheme aims to secure credit and debit card transactions against data theft and fraud. While the PCI SSC has no legal authority to compel compliance, it is a requirement for any business that processes credit or debit card transactions. PCI certification is also considered the best way to safeguard sensitive data and information, thereby helping businesses build long lasting and trusting relationships with their customers."

MUSTANG HORSES PICTURES

IN-HOMES-MUSTANG-HORSE-PHOTOS-FRIENDSHIP-BY-EJAZ-KHAN-EARTH.jpg?lossy=0&strip=1&webp=1

Mustangs are synonymous with freedom and empowerment in American society. These free-roaming horses were brought to America by the Spanish and have firmly planted themselves in our hearts and culture. Mustangs are owned by no humans, they live off the earth and have been admired for centuries. Pictures of mustangs in the wild have always sparked something in people. These horses living in their rugged habitat, independent of aid from anyone, is an inspirational sight. Mustang horse pictures give us an account of their lives and tell us their story.

The Stony Creek Art Fair is in a beautiful setting next to a lake.  The large parking lot is within 100 feet. Close to large homes and wealthy patrons, this show should be good for most price points.  Stony Creek is a popular park in northern Oakland County near Rochester, Birmingham and other high-income cities. Millions of people visit the park annually.

The show offers dedicated parking for artists and patrons adjacent to the event.  We will limit the show to 75 booths. Our marketing program is designed to attract qualified high-end art collectors.

For this event we have a preference for work that feels natural. Perhaps images of flora or fauna. Slightly more traditional in style. We do not include items such as candles, fragrances and silkscreened t-shirts. Originals, prints and high-quality limited edition reproductions are welcome.

Breckenridge art

Breckenridge is located just 80 miles west of Denver in Summit County (which includes Copper Mountain, Frisco, Silverthorne, and Keystone) in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. This is the last big weekend of the summer with many locals, destination tourists, front range tourists, and second home owners in attendance for this very well established show.

Due to construction of a new parking structure by our old location, this year's festival will be held in the Colorado Mountain College parking lot Breckenridge lamp

Covid-related questions for promoters

I was about to fire off an email off to a promoter, but then it occurred to me that these are really questions that all promoters need to answer for all of us given the current situation:

  1. Will the show staff, artists and crafters be required to be vaccinated?
  2. Will masks be required?
  3. Will the show be capacity limited?  If so, by how much?
  4. Will the booths be spaced 6’ apart in all directions?
  5. Will temperature checks be required for entry?
  6. How can I be confident that the promoter will not do a “Sugarloaf” and declare bankruptcy after collecting booth fees?
  7. Does the promoter have all of the permissions and signed contracts necessary to hold the fair, or is he or she speculating that they will be finalized sometime before the date of the fair?

Can you think of any additions to the list?

Kutztown 2009 - First Hand Account

I was at the Kutztown Festival yesterday (June 29) and as always, had a great time. The 9 day festival held in Kutztown Festival is like a Renaissance Festival, but cut out the minstrels and 'ol English dialogue and insert PA Dutch heritage, history, and traditional folk art. I have gone to the festival for about 5 years now and primarily go as a shopper with Christmas list with many names usually checked off by the end of the day once I am done there. I haven't been able to do the event since it takes place over a 9 day period. The event has taken place since the 70's and every year gets better with age. The jury does an amazing job with a large variety of folk art and traditional art forms galore. There is about 350 artists who make up the event, plus demonstrations from artists and others such as barn raising. I have several friends who do the event each year and find it to be THE event to do (and look forward to) each year as many make at least $5,000 over that period of time with many more making about $20,000 or so - all depending on what is being sold and contacts after the event. The event also offers information about hotel and even housing options including housing options at the local college and campground info as well as opportunities in staying on site. One artist, Lin who works with recycled glass cups and creates stained glass and butterfly feeders. New to the show, Lin stated how she was just happy to be accepted into the event. After the first two days of the event being open she quickly learned it can be a very profitable event making several good sales. Monday proved to be good, despite less foot traffic. In my experience, walking the event on both weekdays and weekends, some weekdays can be incredibly busy especially if the weather cooperates. The event ends around the 4th of July with a great fireworks display. Another artist, a jewelry maker who works with leather, attended the show for the first time last year, had such a successful time found it was necessary to buy two booth spaces. So far the weeks start has showed it was the best move to ever make.Don't take my word for it, go to their website - www.kutztownfestival.com (I think that is the site address) and see for yourself. Information on how to apply and more is found there. I am seriously thinking about signing up for 2010 - maybe I will see you there! - Michelle Sholund, By the Bay Botanicals
