READ THE FINE PRINT:    I made the mistake of not reading the fine print and this past week tried to cancel with my present credit card company.   I found out that when the three years expires it automatically gives you another  3 years unless you write 90 days in advance to cancel.   So now i am stuck till april 2013.  I did not read the fine print.  If I want out it will cost me $314.00.    The one good thing to come out of this is that i was told that my rates are going to come down.   (I want that in writing) , and  am getting free supplies, whatever that entails.

  • Thanks to everyone for your input!

  • Square works quite well but impossible if you ever try to reach a live person on the phone for customer service. Intuit customer service can be easily reached by phone and has the same fee arrangement as square.

  • Melanie  if you get an ipad make sure you get it with cellular not just wifi,  also i saved myself 100 by buying a refurbished iPad not a new one.  you get the same warranty as you do with a new one.  and what a refurbished one is, one that has been used in an apple store,  they send it back to china and go over it with a fine tooth comb and it is like brand new.  actually all my apple computers are refurbished.  i have been using square for about a month and love it.  i also have the intuit gadget just in case.  i have been keying in for over a month and i am sure i am saving money  since with my co.  signature one  there is a min of 25.00 then a wireless fee of 25.00 and yes the pci compliance fee quarterly of 21.95 and yes am stuck in a contract till 04/13   but i believe square is 3.1 +15cent per transaction for key in.   we discussed this last year on this blog ck those out

  • My understanding is that Square is responsible for PCI since we never store credit card info on our system.  Also, you can get extra square devices FREE. Just ask them online and they will send them to you.  I always carry at least one extra since they are easy to misplace.  Melanie is right,  Square's rates online, it says ALL cards are 2.75% and only KEYED in transactions are 3.5 plus $.15. I've checked and that is exactly what I have paid.

  • I have not heard of any PCI compliance fees when using square, Intuit or PayPal. I use these accounts..primarily have the others a a backup if problems occur. When I used 1st National Payment Solutions they charged me well over $100 on two occasions for PCI fees in addition to a monthly fee that was around $18. I initially signed up with them because they advertised on many art/craft sites...such as here on ArtFair Insiders and on my Louisiana Crafts Guild website...so I thought they were a good deal...not so...

  • Hello, All:

I just spoke with NAB (my current processing outfit) and they offered me a deal; however, the sales person said that Square's swiped business/rewards rate is 3.5 plus $.15 transaction fee.  When I looked at Square's rates online, it says ALL cards are 2.75% and only KEYED in transactions are 3.5 plus $.15. NAB now has two different rates but my head is spinning from all of this jargon and it's so confusing.  Oh, well, I'm going to order my ipad and then decide what to do.  There is no cancellation fee for my current account, the PCI fee is coming up in March and I want to avoid that at all costs.  Anyone else run across this by not going with Square?  I understand Paypal has something new at 2.69 but I haven't looked into that.

  • Am keeping cc till run out but using square in meantime. I did an artisy thing this weekend I helped decorate a rosé parade float this past weekend I helped with the nurses float. So if you all watch the and you see the nurses float I helped decorate it. Took time from my art work.
  • Thanks to you guys for your input.  I'm ready to make the move after having my old account for six years or so.  Will have to look at the fine print.

  • Going to keep cc company till April and then cancel and I think they know it. Have been using square sine Tempe and am very satisfied with it. I even got an extra square reader by mistake. So thanks for advice
  • Another option is to just keep paying the monthly fee for this card and switch to whoever else you want.  Sometimes that ends up being cheaper than the cancellation fee.

I recommend Square - its awesome!
