Postponed: Midtown Atlanta Festival of the Arts

231.jpg?width=175The Midtown Festival of the Arts in an excellent location in Atlanta premiered last year to rave reviews from the artists. The event, an all volunteer festival, brought together civic leaders in that neighborhood and local sponsors to an already vibrant neighborhood. Inspired by that success the group started reaching out to some arts professionals for ideas on organization and improving the show. All was seemingly going well for 2011 but complications have brought it to a halt for 2011.

They are calling it "postponed to 2012 "and working to bring it back then with better organization then. It should be interesting to see what happens as it seems this is a dedicated bunch of people. Nonetheless, busy committed people may become overwhelmed when volunteering to put together a quality event. I hope they can make it happen.

  • In my case I gave up several good shows which due to the late notifacation left me in the lurch. No refund of jury fee. Very lame situation.
No regard for the artists. I'm not feeling the love.
  • Not, ya-ya, Nels. Yes, Holly Mull died last year but they went on without her. This is, in fact, the result of other extenuating circumstances. Still, what a shame. It leaves artists with a hole in their schedules.

  • Charlotte's still taking artists.  What's with this magical weekend-2 different shows cancelled?
  • I am in the lurch now, turned down a show I was accepted in, and passed on applying to others that had later deadlines. This is far more "inconvenient" than they seem to imagine. Did the board actually contact artists involved in the show, were they even looking for a way to not bail on us?
  • Connie that is all a buch of ya-ya from that board.  I talked to a well-connected Atlanta artist last weekend, and he said the reason for the postponement is because the women who was instrumental in starting it, and was the force behind it, passed away.  Nobody else wanted to step into the void.  That's all folks.
