  I think we are all suffering from a society that has been frog boiled into almost giving up. I agree that the street aint art....although now and then...Boris..Charles....it can be..I'm just saying if I want to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond.......I'll go to the mall. The general reaction to a bad economy was to make crap...I got sick of it and swtiched to a different medium. For me doing shows, living outside the norm, being independant was and is a political act...and it was for many. People respond to this with varying degrees of anxiety about themselves. They want to be "artist's", but hey want to stay at the Hilton etc etc....Typically art is about sacrifice...often it is a result of anxiety...Too many middle aged white folks on the street selling white bread to white bread wanters..I knew it was over when I saw my first W sticker on a craftsmens van...

  I won't argue with your gondola analogy, nor better art will make better shows but the street isn't exactly a museum or high end gallery. I paint because I enjoy it, it makes me feel good, not because I have a giant angst. Not to say I've never done a political or emotionally motivated piece. I probably just haven't suffered enough yet.

  I'm confused.
  Our country has decided to act against the artists and pander to the lowest common denominator. People should be reacting tothis through music, art and writing......Instead I see endless images of Gondolas...

  Let's go a step farther....In my opinion creativity reflects the philosophic feelings of the times. Often great music was a responce to hard times. We are experiencing the exhortation of the rich in Amerika. People worship money...Things like state lotteries and payday loans are prime examples of the self absorbed. I'd like to see peoples efforts become more statement oriented. Some of the greatest photography ever done was of course journalistic. From the civilwar tot he dust bowl to the civil rights and anti war movements....great images were created. When I walkthrough a show these days it's like very booth is trying to be Taylor Swift...she's hot and she's rich, but her music sucks.

  Jack, That is really special. (sorry grasping for adjectives this morning, didn't want to say cool or awesome) I was wondering about the TV show comment. Are segments on now or upcoming? I'll check out your link.
  
  Barry the words to Kumbaya weren't written yet. Don't be an ass, a statement like yours would suppose all artists get along, and I happen to know, some out there like to call me toxic. Your example supports my statement.

  Melanie, you are on to something. There's a big market for miniatures. You may find you can get more for your 1" x 1" paintings than your large work. Also, your Salieri crack was really funny.
  
  Terry, in the old days they sat around drinking, holding hands, and singing Kumbaya. So, how do you think George Braque and Picasso got along?
  
  Which reminds me of something I read in "Letters to Theo." Van Gogh went down to his local art supply store and saw Pisarro buying paint. He quickly ran home to get some paintings of his to show his hero. When Pisarro looked at the work he told Van Gogh it was a bunch of crap or something similar to that. Shows you what the "master" knew.
