Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals

Please Help my Friend...and Fellow Art Festival Artist

Rebecca Rush Profeta is one of my oldest and dearest friends. Something horrible happened to her this week.

She came home from a 3 day art show to find the police at her home. Her husband had passed away in their home...probably just several hours after she left for the art show. Her husband, Joe had a heart attack on Thursday, and wasn't found until Monday afternoon.

The police took him [and their bed] away and a hasmat crew is trying to "clear the air" in their house.

This is a couple who were living hand to mouth... after the crash in '08, they found they were upside down on their mortgage. He was 64 and had not been able to find much work over the last few years...until this past May. They've been living on whatever pension and savings they had - which is gone. She's not in debt, and this is not a luxurious home, either  [it's probably worth 80K] but she doesn't even have the money to replace her bed right now!

Because of the odor in the home, she will have to dispose of or professionally clean a lot of items. Other than that...most of her art supplies [paper and fabric] have been compromised and can't be used.

There is no life insurance, and she will have to eventually leave the house - without an extra income, she probably can't afford to live there. She has been making some money painting, doing repair work, and of course, making her hand made books and journals. She is 59.

This is her site... http://www.rebeccarushdesigns.com/index.html.

I doubt if she would qualify for the CERF funding - I am willing to help her financially - but I thought I might also come to the community to see if anyone feels like they can kick in a few bucks to help her replenish her paper stock or a place to lay her head.

I found out her paypal account is rjrush1@gmail.com and her mailing address is: Rebecca Profeta, 1022 E. Weldon, Phoenix, AZ 85014

Thanks

First of all, I'm so very sorry for her loss...What a heartbreaking situation...

What kind of paper does she use? Unfortunately we're in a tight financial spot right now, so I can't help that way, but I do have some extra art supplies, if it's what she uses... I'm always happy to help a fellow artist...

Oh my goodness, I can't think of a worse situation to come home to.  I feel so bad for your friend.  In the past we have donated to artists here.  Someone set up a special account for that.  I don't really understand where to go or what to do to donate.  Can you explain it better.  Others may also have questions.  Why wouldn't she qualify for CERF?

Is CERF just for crafters or for visual artists also?

I think there are many people out there who would like to help but, like me. feel uncomfortable sending funds to a paypal acct.  Maybe you could start a campaign on GiveForward, here is the link: http://www.giveforward.com/fundraisers?query=
Plus you would reach a larger audience.

Uncomfortable using PayPal? Why?  She will receive the funds immediately and at no cost to you.

Set up a complicated campaign?  Why?

It's actually quite simple.  I think it will bring her more help than just requesting it here.

Create a Fundraising page

Starting a fundraiser is a big decision that takes courage. We’re here to make your entire process an easy, joyful and memorable experience. The best advice we can give, is to tell a compelling story. No need to write a novel, but you should be specific about how the money will make an impact on your loved one who needs support.

After answering a few questions about the fundraiser, the person you are raising money for, and yourself — hit “Publish my fundraiser” and it will be active.

Thank you for sharing Rebecca's situation. I have donated and hope others will follow through the same. She has a difficult journey ahead of her and any amount of donation will be a blessing. I also posted on Facebook. Thank you

For everyone - you are the best. I talked to Rebecca tonight and she is still not able to get into her house. She's not very tech-savvy, so it might be a few days before she can access a computer to answer your queries about books/journals or even check her PayPal account. I think with everything she is going through, she'd be overwhelmed...she already is. I am so grateful for such positive responses. You are all so wonderful to help a fellow artist in this way!
