Krasl Artisan Market - St Joe, MI

Has anyone been involved with the November Krasl Artisan Market? I was accepted to show there, but because my inventory is constantly rotating and I have an array of sizes, I am not sure if I should concentrate on small or have at least one statement piece and a few different pieces. So confused.

  • I am wondering, Monica and Carol, did you send pics of higher end pieces for the jury photos, or did you send pics in the price range they mentioned sell well (lower priced items.)  I sent pictures of lower priced items, because I got the impression that's what they were looking for.  Maybe that was a mistake.

  • I have been accepted this year as well and not sure what to expect. I am a glass artist/jeweler and not sure about price points. Also, debating on display packaging. My first time at this event. Would welcome suggestions.
  • Thank you Colleen! We will be delivering our pieces, since we live an hour and a half away. Yes... I have three statement pieces - a park-style bench with Van Goghs Starry Night, a Federal style entry table with a play on Botero and American Gothic, and a 6 drawer very narrow thing with Van Gogh's Cornflowers and Poppies. The bench represents the highest price point.... and fine art repros on cigar boxes and 2 guitars fill out the inventory. It has been such a tumultuous year with success and failure.... I really want this community to embrace my work. Of course, full report upon conclusion. Nervous... excited... nauseous... giddy!

  • Hi Monica,

I am going to put my two cents in since I think it may help. I have participated twice (still have my work in the gallery shop there, rotated from the last market) and based on my experience, I would choose small, lower-priced items BUT also add that statement piece (or two) for punch. You never know. So, you aren't confused at all...you had the right idea!

My submission was porcelain jewelry which I don't think was too big of a hit; there could be many reasons why my sales were disappointing to me. I did ask for display advice regarding my display cards for the second year and even that didn't help. Most of my sold items fell under the $30 mark for each (less than $300 total sales). There was a maximum number of pieces for jewelry you could send in.

What I would like to add: I found the staff's communication and the check-in/check-out to be very efficient and because of that, I was very confident that the event was well-run. If you are sending in work, you may want to specify the carrier for its return. The default is UPS and it is deducted from your sales check...the second year, I was able to save a few bucks by specifying USPS, but my work is really light and I'm in the NE.

I wish you lots of good sales! Please report on the event afterwards ;-)

  • Thank you Roxanne - I didn't even know I would be accepted. I am so new to all of this - so, this is kind of exciting... yet freakishly overwhelming. Hopefully you will get off of wait list!

  • Lucky you!  I got on the wait list.  Since all anybody has to do is ship their stuff over there, it's not like anyone is going to cancel and open up a spot.
