How You Get to be Chosen to be in the Cherry Creek Arts Festival

What a great article this is from in Denver.

Did you know only 260 of the 2,138 artists who applied to the 2018 Cherry Creek Arts Festival were chosen to be a part of one of the most competitive juried art shows in the US? Did you think they were just picking on you! Or maybe you are one of "the chosen".

Well, that was a non-story! So how are they picked?! Where were the facts... any facts?! Another "story" from local news... like a burger without the meat -- or the bun!

Kind of a nothing article.  This tells the public nothing except that it's hard to get in.  I suppose that part is informative.....

The jury eventually selected....

The problem is that the show doesn't let anyone observe after the first round is over. During the first round the jurors see all the applicants and eliminate about half. They see each set of images for about 10-15 seconds. That takes about a day and a half. After that non jurors have to leave the room.

Yeah, not really investigative journalism going on with this article. Maybe talk to a juror? An artist? Quote somebody saying something?

So, Connie, why did you describe it as a great article?

The article was just the usual hype to get people to come to the show. By letting people know that 1 out of every 8 that applied, got in, they are telling people that it is a highly selective show. It worked for me.

It's just like any show. The morning of the judging they get a few of their friends to come down and throw darts at a list of names. Whoever they hit gets in.

I just participated in the Colorado Arts Image Review presented by the Cherry Creek Art Festival.  I wasn't able to physically attend, unfortunately, but I received written feedback on the images and booth shot I submitted.  The review was from two of the artist jurors, and I found it to be helpful and encouraging.  Even so, with so many applicants, I'm sure they turn away a lot of talent.
