Enjoy.  You can get a feel for the show layout.  People in the pics:Local glass artist Chuck Boux with a great landscape in glass.  Rick is serenading us in the artist alley behind booths.  That is AFI-er Ray Mosteller with his able assistant.  And then there is Bill Sargant hiding behind a ribbon--gee, what show is that from,Bill?  Then there is "Uncle Dick" Cunningham giving me the evil eye.  Show looks good in the park, but the load-out is a true bitch--to me, worse then Ann Arbor.  Took me six loads on the Magline cart, uphill, and across the busy street to my van.  I don't know if it was really worth it.8871859283?profile=original

  • Geri, this is his last nite on this earth.
  • Nels-where is your cat sleeping tonite?
  • HA!
  • OMG!  Does anybody have a giant can of poisenous pest spray.  Email me it immediately--why--Barry Bernstein just showed up at my Ybor home and is already mooching all my tequila--help me please!
  • Robert, I know of the photographers you are referring to, and I heard through the grapevine (unconfirmed by show officials) that these guys were allowed to stay this year, because they supposedly had an issue with the app on Zapp, but won't be allowed back in 2012.

The main reason that folks keep applying to this show is the $75K in prize money. And chances of getting some of it are not bad, with about 40 prize winners out of 260 or so. I had a piece chosen, but did not win. Bill Lemke had a purchase award, as did Glen and Gayle Wans. But most of the money goes to 3D, splashy work.
  • Robert I like your spirit and attitude, we are privileged to have you in our ever-growing AFI family.
  • Sorry Nels.  I didn't mean to hijack your thread.  I saw Alison's rant about artists not following rules and I saw this photographer at this show who apparently disregarded the rules and I felt it relevant.  I will begin a new thread and would be honored for you to post one of your beautiful photographs.   I guess i really do have a lot to learn in this business!
  • Barry, I think you should ask someone on the committee at Gasparilla about your place on the waitlist. I was a rejected artist (not waitlisted) and was told on Monday before the show that non-waitlisted artists were being offered spaces. By Thursday I was offered a space.

I turned it down, as I've decided it is not a well run show. They don't jury well and for years they haven't kept to their waitlist (I was invited the same way in 2008 and did the show). The load in/out is something I won't subject myself to anymore and I think next year I'll just keep my jury fee and wait for them to call me the week before the show....

To quote James (and others), "I'm just saying....."

  • Connie, I'm beginning to not like my pots.  Ever since I saw John Long's gallery, I have not been able to fall asleep because every night I keep thinking of new things I could do, or, better yet, revisit some things I did a long time ago that I never fully developed.  I need to get to the next level.
  • I liked your picture of Tim Peters playing guitar and singing behind his booth.  He's been doing that a lot lately.
