It is always interesting to see the PR that comes from the shows from the local media. Here are a few 8871889452?profile=originalfrom this past weekend:

Not sure if this headline would make me want to attend this show in the Cleveland area: Lakewood Arts Festival a Sweltering Success... http://lakewood-oh.patch.com/articles/lakewood-arts-festival-a-sweltering-success#photo-7290581

We all know that the real biggie this weekend (650 artists at the main event and even more at two smaller events) is taking place in Minneapolis this weekend at the Uptown Art Fair. Here's what the CBS affiliate says:  350,000 People Crowd into Minneapolis Weekend Art Fairs. http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2011/08/06/350000-people-crowd-into-mpls-weekend-art-fairs/

Not sure about this one. The Mystic Outdoor Art Fair (CT) used to be pretty highly regarded so what do you think about this headline: Outdoor Festival to feature Children's Art   http://www.thewesterlysun.com/mysticriverpress/news/outdoor-festival-to-showcase-children-s-art/article_24faf960-be9a-11e0-9892-001cc4c002e0.html

Then there is this ominous headline for the Park City (UT) Kimball Arts Festival, "Economy paints a darkening picture as artists arrive in Park City"...  http://www.parkrecord.com/ci_18625639

But here's a more positive spin on that event, "Art festival partnerships benefit Park City", http://www.parkrecord.com/ci_18625679

And why don't we hear more hear about the Asheville, NC, Village Art and Craft Fair? Is it strictly a regional event? It is held on the grounds of the Biltmore Estate and partly sponsored by the prestigious New Morning Gallery... here are more details on this one:  http://www.goupstate.com/article/20110804/ARTICLES/110809837/1097/sitemaps04

  • Just heard that someone with same product applied to big show in AZ and did not get in.  But they are going to keep an eye out for such products.    thanks for letting us know
  • The host is providing place to talk about it and gather resources -- never fear, Darby. Visit this link to pitch in with ideas and opinions:  http://www.artfairinsiders.com/profiles/blogs/buy-sell-artists-amp-...
  • I started a new blog about buy sell artists if you are interested in commenting and/or adding to what have already written.
  • Tell me the watch guys' names (cuz I didn't see them listed on the Bayou City artists list) and I will email Bayou City.     The watches are actually kind of cool but they should be in a different venue.
  • Mark and Wendy mentioned they do not want to tell a promoter that this watch person is buy sell, so have a friend of yours do it for you.   i was rejected from park city  after 3 years of getting in and this appalls me to see this.  That is two spaces that one of us could have had.   And park city prides itself on a clean show.
  • This reminds me of years ago with the weathervanes from who knows where. they were in 5 or 6 shows on the same weekend all over the country, The exact same weathervanes.
  • I stopped doing Uptown after last year.  I was next to a double booth, gypsy bazaar, buy sell jewelry.  I spoke to a number of Uptown representatives and they felt it was OK.  Lousy show, glad it was better this year.
  • I would contact Bayou City but I am wait listed for the show and I do not want to come across as a trouble maker.  This is probably the same reason they and others keep getting into good shows.  I am, as probably most other artists are, afraid to make waves.  This is our lively hood, and if you piss off the organizers and become a tattle tale or point out that they let in someone who doesn't belong in such a high caliber show we could be shown the door instead.  But maybe this time the word will get out.

I hove no trouble with these guys trying to make a living.  But just don't scam the customers we rely on for our living also.

  • Mistura had a booth, double I think, at Boca Art Museum festival. Has anyone contacted TPTB at Bayou City?
  • Being a wood artist (from MN who does not apply to Uptown) I rolled my eyes when I saw the Mistura Boys listed at the show. Bravo Uptown! It's been no secret for quite some time that these guys are resellers, but it's good to see a show with the moxie to give them the Heave Ho. And yes, I did see them on the Houston list for this fall. This piqued my interest, as I too will be in Bayou City. Spread the word.
