Mt. Dora, FL February 2013

Hello, Everyone:

We just accepted an invitation to Mt. Dora, February 2013.  Any input regarding space requests?  We cannot be near food or music and would like a quiet space in shade (sun issues), etc.  Who wouldn't?  If someone has suggestions we would greatly appreciate it since we have never been there before.  Any input would be wonderful to reduce our stress!

Thanks in advance.

  • Connie, thanks for your comments.  I always (if possible) put in the sun, music, food, etc. but I guess I do need to do more homework, look at the map (if possible) and insert that as well.  It can't hurt and they may actually read it!  Thanks again.

  • Another tip for another day, Melanie. When my husband would fill out the applications, if there was a space on the application, even before the acceptances came in, he would put space preferences on that application. No reason to wait. Do your homework ahead of time. See if they have the layout online and ask friends. Then, if we were at a first time show for us, and didn't like our space, he'd walk the show and take the show map and pick out which space he'd want the following year -- then put it on the application.

  • PS:  Steve, hope you get in!!  Thank you for the heads up about shims.

  • Hi,Geoff and Steve:

Thank you for your responses and comments.  Steve, where were you located in the show? I'm looking at the middle of the show in the "D" area (D054-D094 [2011 map]) on Donnelly St.  Are there any bad spots that you know of?  We have to be AWAY from music and the beer tent.  We simply cannot be near food or music.  It kills the sales.

It is always such a crap shoot with these shows especially since we've never been there before and I thank you both for your comments.

  • Hi Melanie,

Congrats on getting accepted. We did the show last year and only made the waitlist for this coming years show. Hopefully we get called as it was our highest grossing show for the winter season last year. Pay attention to the advice about bringing shims etc for your display, the area has hills and some pretty un level spots here and there. As to a particular location, I could not say, we have had the same area for all the times we have done the show.

  • If you have a medical issue that makes it onerous to be in the sun for prolonged periods of time, state that explicitly, especially if it's a medical requirement (i.e., advised by your physician).

Everything else you've listed is a preference.

When stating a booth location preference, never list a booth number, as these can change from year to year.
