Help Me Choose a Logo, Please

My main website, www.ArtFairCalendar.com, went live in 2004 and has wonderful success with great Google rankings, often #1 for "art fairs", "Chicago art fairs", "Florida art fairs", etc. It also has 13,000 subscribers to its timely noozles that bring the latest fine art fair and craft show news to art fair aficionados across the country. It has been thrilling for me as its publisher. HOWEVER, I have never gotten around to having a professional logo made for the site. The time has come! Last week I went to LogoNerds.com for logos and submitted my information. Here is what they sent me. Will you please look these samples over and comment below on your favorites.

In case you can't read the numbers they are numbered 1 through 6, with 1-3 on the left hand side and 4-6 on the right hand side. What do you think?

  • I think all of this logos were designed in less of 5 minutes. Any of them are representative of the artist you can find here. Brushes??? This web site is only for painters?
  • LOL. My son says 1 and 3 the font looks like a cheap Chinese restaurant. So you two must be swimming in the same pond, without the koi.

I am pretty much going back to the drawing boards because I don't like any of them. Although in figuring that out it seems I don't need a logo as much as I need a new banner for ArtFairCalendar.com. I've not spent much money so far, (hence the not great choices), but maybe by Christmas between us I'll have something.
  • I like 3 and 5. When I looked at the webpage my first impression was quiet colors so I thought the splashy ones might fit well to wake it up a bit. Of the two, 5 I like best for coloration, readable and I would remember it. #3 reminds me of a chinese fish swimming. No not a koi, lol. Looks like a fish & lettering feels oriental. Its ok but not as positive as #5.
  • I like 3 and 5. The concept of 3 is interesting. However I wouldn't mind seeing it in different colors, sort of like number 5. It also might be better if the brush was an artist's brush, not a painter's brush. The clearest and easiest to read is 5. I also like it because it is colorful.

The one I really dislike is 4. It is very hard to read. I would avoid that one entirely. It might have been better if they did the font drawing on the first letter of each word, not on the "a"s only. The next one I dislike is number 2. I don't see what a woman's face has to do with anything. Number 1 is rather boring, being only two colors and they used the same font throughout which might be harder to read when the logo is small. Mixing font styles is more interesting anyway, as long as they are compatible and there aren't too many different fonts. I am totally indifferent to number 6. It's okay.

I like Jorge's and Paula's comments about having one of us do the logo. I am a graphic designer by training (BFA) and I have a lot of experience with sign making. I am sure there are many others here who have similar and probably deeper experience than I do. You could make it some sort of contest. It would be fun! I hope you haven't sunk too much into this yet.
  • I like 1 and 6. I think I am going to be out numbered though. I don't see 6 as hard to read as compared to #4. Number 1 is nice but if the outline from #3 would be used instead of the bold red, it would be even better.
  • forgot to mention, #3 would be better if an artist brush was used instead of the household paint brush.
  • #1 is nice, but i don't get what the guy is doing. #2 is simple, but why the women's face. #3 I like alot! #4 is impossible to read. #5 is my 2nd favorite. #6 is ok, but again, the lettering is difficult to read, but not as difficult as #4. For a b&w use, i think #3 would hold up better. Mary
  • Dear Connie, I think here are many artist can do it better, why not propose that we design the logo?
  • Thanks for these good comments. Peggy, I checked out Hugh MacLeod - you must be kidding! We'd be talking many thousands of dollars to use him - but I surely had fun looking at his site. Thanks for the logotournament.com site suggestion, Peter, but that is also way more than I am thinking of spending.

I mostly agree with Jorge. None are what I was thinking of and not very good looking. But, you get what you pay for. So it was back to the drawing board with the LogoNerds, with more information and feedback to them. I probably didn't give them enough information. Stay tuned for round two!
  • my first thought was MADE IN USA. Our biggest problem out here is the buy sell emports
