Closing the Sale

December 12, 2014  20/20 is doing their show on "Closing the Sale."  I have been looking for some info on what exactly they will be covering and I can't find anything.  I did see the brief promo for it last week at the end of their show - you know when you are trying to catch the Christmas tree before it falls over and you aren't completely listening to the TV.

I do know it is on closing the sale but I don't know if it is about helping the customer to not be talked into making an unwanted purchase or if it is about good tips for the seller when making a sale.  Anyway, I think you may want to watch.  No matter which direction the show goes in you should learn something from it.

The show is on at 10 pm on ABC Eastern Standard time.

  • Thanks for that great synopsis, Weldon. I'm thinking we need a better link to this program somewhere on one of our sites. Maybe we need get Robert for a podcast ;)

  • For those who might be interested, posted below are note I made from the program . . .

    Notes from 20/20

    with Robert Herjavec

    KNOW YOU PRODUCT

Don’t lie! Crappy sales people are liars.

    Listen more than you talk.

You can’t be successful unless you master sales.

    SALES IS HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT!

. . . looking at somebody in the whites of their eyes and getting them to do something.

A GREAT SALES PERSON IS A CHAMELEON!

The have to change colors and stripes depending who they’re selling too.

THE MOST ABSOLUTE, CRITICAL THING TO DO WHEN SELLING . . . SMILE!

    You’ve gotta be engaged.

Engaging is one thing . . . closing is another.

5 Classic Closing Tactics – Secrets of the Sale

. . . product is in great demand

    2) Best Time close

. . . no time like the present

    3) Artisan close

         . . . emphasizing art & craftsmanship

    4) Compliment close

         . . . pointing out cumtomer’s great qualities

    5) Concession close

         . . . offering an incentive

Never turn your back to the customer.

  • Interesting story. Basically the recruited six people at a job fair then put them through a sales boot camp and narrowed it to three people. A contest to see who could sell the most manning a booth at a NYC winter market for one hour each.
Just reinforcement that you need to encourage people to buy, maybe it's pointing out the quality, that you are there for one day only....all about closing....nice segment
  • I'll check it out, Jacki...first I have to get into a show though, ha,ha.

  • Yes, Tina, I caught the tree.  It would have been a terrible mess if I hadn't been in the room as it was tipping.  I had one fall over a few years ago and it took me 6 hours to clean it all up.

The 20/20 show had some very good info in it.  If anyone missed it and would like to watch it,

Here is a synopsis of the show:

Robert Herjavec of "Shark Tank" Puts People to the Selling Test; Investigation: Some Home Alarm Salesmen Accused of Underhanded Tactics; Meet This 11-Year-Old CEO and Entrepreneur from Detroit

  • Thanks, Jacki. I'm on way way to watch.

  • Did you catch the tree? I'm sorry I missed it, was watching a Denzel Washington movie on WGN called "Man on Fire"...I did learn a few tricks from him though.
