Best of the Northwest October show

The show was held in Hanger 30 on the Magnuson park grounds.  Set up and tear down was easy with parking at 4 doors to get in and out.  Artist that had purchased electricity found it easy to access from their booths. plenty of booth sitters and an energized organization.

The show boosted 110 artist and charged a hefty price to be there.  There was also a charge at the front door, but that allowed patrons access throughout the weekend and for the next show that will be held in November.

they had an artist dinner of pizza, pasta and salad and a pay bar.

the down side is even though they said numbers were up through the gate, the wrong demographics were showing up.  This translated in very slow sales.   I sold 4 framed prints and cards.  2/3 of my sales were in cash and averaged less than 30 dollars.

Given the high price of the booth,  if you did not live in the area and had to have a motel room you would be pressed to break even on this show.  Even the jewelers appeared to be struggling.

Given the name of the show I was also expecting the show to be regional artists, but it was not.

  • did not apply to spring show

  • Any word on spring 2015 acceptance? Zapp says notification date was December 15.
  • I also participated in the October Best of the Northwest show and happy to say it was my best show of the year!  Wood furniture and boxes, currently working on two custom orders that I picked up from calls after the show.  The only thing that would have made my happier is if I sold everything and had nothing to pack up after the show.

  • glad you had good sales Robbie..  I sold to a lot of people and sales were decent.  and as I said if you lived in the area you would do ok.  But traveling in with hotel/motel expenses it would be hard to cover your expenses.

  • We did the October best NW last weekend. It was slow, but we had good sales. We will be back if accepted.
  • Used to love this show but it has seriously gone downhill.  Too many organizational changes, too many venue changes and increasing fees.  All their communication states that they are listening to the artists and responding to their concerns, but bottom line, it's getting worse, not better for the artists to participate in this show.
