  • LOL. If I go to Bass Pro or Cabela's without her I am in big trouble - she loves those places as much as I do! In Ocala, there is a 2 store mall with Northern Tool and Gander Mountain - we call it the "Man Mall"!

  • A few years ago on our way home from Orlando, we were going to stop at the outlet mall.  Traffic was so backed up at 10am getting into the place, we gave up.  There is definitely traffic going past that area.

Also, not trying to be sexist but send the husband to Bass Pro and the wife can check out the art.

  • Looks like we may be able to work something out.  Steve wanted us to start on Oct. 16 (grand opening) but that cannot happen.  Thanksgiving through Christmas, if the rent is reasonable.  Will keep you posted.  They are very nice people to work with, for sure.  This area of I-Drive is tremendously heavily traveled by the more affluent tourists and locals, adjacent to 2 of the best Outlet Centers.  Hopefully we can make it happen!

  • the organizers have put a lot of money into rebuilding the property and marketing this concept. They have a need to make it work for themselves and their investors. Love to hear what you find out, Alan, and it you can make it work for yourself.

  • Thanks, Connie!  I am going to see if they will let us do a 5 week run during the run-up to Christmas.  Florida is pretty much a 'desert' for good shows that time of year.  We have tried Malls, but the hours are brutal.  I will let you know if we get any traction.

  • Nope, we don't have feedback yet, Alan. It is new. They are just rolling it out. What I do know is that it has been a long roll out. They've been working through the concepts for a couple of years. It is really something new, turning an old shopping mall in a high traffic tourist area into a place to buy art. Will it work? Will it be worth your time and money. Time will tell. Click on the Carolyn Edlund link as she is a very smart art biz person. The upcoming seminar will give you some more background.

Inertia can set in. We just do shows. We just want to do shows. We don't want to take chances. I totally get that. But change and new marketing MAY result in growth in one's business. What do you think? (yes, they paid me to post what is above but if you don't know anything else about me you know I like to turn over all the stones to see what is there.)

  • So, does anyone have any real feedback on this endeavor?  I would love to hear some success stories from someone other than the promoter....

  • Sounds pretty sweet...kind of like what they're trying to do in Kalamazoo and other Michigan cities, although here we're utilizing existing buildings with historic significance (when possible) instead of a brand new structure.  Still, interesting that they have investors who are willing to take a leap of faith on something so big and so new.
