This question is for anyone who has done this show in the past.  I am doing the show this year and as I was reading thru the materials it talks about lighting for the evening hours even though no electric is provided.  Any suggetions from those who have been there?   Thanks.

  • Where is your space located. If you're one of the five booths on either side at the South Aiken end, I made arrangements with Shiller's Drug Store years ago to connect to their outside outlet about ten feet off the ground. You need a fifty (or hundred) foot cord and a ladder.

Any place else, you can use a generator or ask the store you are in front of if you can plug in. If you use a generator, make sure to lock it to something that won't move so it doesn't disappear and make sure to carry at least a fifty foot cord and gaffers or duct tape besides your lights, extension cords and 60 watt bulbs. If you don't have any options, maybe a neighbor will let you plug in one light, which is really all you need when it gets dark on Saturday.

I'll probably see you down there. I walk the show each year since I stopped doing it.,

    • Thanks Larry!!!!

      • Instead of one 60 watt (incandescent) bulb, why not get several fluorescent bulbs?  I use 43 watt fluorescents that put out 150 watts of light each.  Two or three of those will really light up your booth.  Or if you have a lower limit allowed, get the 23 watt fl. bulbs that light up to 90 watts.  Many shows have a 300 watt limit, so with fl. bulbs (the spiral or pigtail type), you can blast out with seven of the 43 watt types, generating the equivalent of 1,050 watts of brilliant light.

Just make sure you get the warm white bulbs, not the cool white or daylight bulbs, or your booth will look like the inside of a refrigerator!  They should be available at Home Depot, Lowe's or the like.
