The Last Day of the Year

I'll be spending this day flying from Los Angeles to Detroit. Like many parents I have seen my bright8869100256?profile=original and shiny children move away for greener pastures and good jobs in California and elsewhere. So, for me this last day is a sad one, as I leave behind my sons, their wives and 3 little grandchildren until we can meet again. I make these trips to LA frequently and almost always my seat mates are parents or kids making the trek to visit family. All of us are happy on the outbound trip and depressed on the inbound leg.

Have you been watching Facebook in the last week, as many friends post images of happy families together and loved ones gathered? It has been heartwarming.  I hope your holidays were full of love and hugs like mine and that the New Year will bring you more of the same, whether with your family of birth or your family "on the road" as we travel and meet up with friends.

How will you spend the last day of 2012?

  • I spent it cooking and entertaining!  We have had family visiting since before Christmas and no end in sight yet.  Makes it hard to do anything LOL.  And I had to bake in ridiculously hot weather because my twin girls have their birthday New Year's Day!

  • I spent it working on my largest block print to date. Printed up a few proofs, am tweaking the block today. I won't be seeing any of my family for another couple of months, the winter is nose-to-the-grindstone time for me.

  • Nothing exciting here for me.  We took one son to the airport today.  Another son is going out on the town  in Grand Rapids.  The hubby and I will stay in and might go get a bite to eat.  I have been cooking like a galley chef for the last week and I am tired of cooking!  It will be nice to let someone else do the cooking for dinner.

    Happy New Year everyone.

  • Working as usual - historic reproduction scallop cheek spot headstall, and two pair of white stirrups for trick saddles. Jean is home from Parachute, CO but is going back the 4th. Her sister from Reno and niece are coming over to see new granddaughter. 9 degrees this morning. Fires are going upstairs for the dogs and in the studio for me. Sending off the updates for web page today. Thanks to the podcast on websites, fonts will be changed for easier reading. Taking a break and enjoying a print of two Cape buffalo by Steve Koury we bought at the Winter Park, CO show last summer. Takes me back to Africa where it was warmer.
  • I will be spending it with my daughter and her husband and children (ages 11 to 21), and my niece and her family.  I consider myself lucky.  My daughter and her husband bought a house right next door to mine so I get to see them every day.  It's also my anniversary (31 years) so we will celebrating with our annual 'grease fest'.  One day of the year we get together our deep fryers and fry our dinner, play board games and have lots of fun.  Family...it's the most importing thing.
