Show / Event Setup / Booth Assignment

Hi All,

I was wondering, if anyone knows, why some show promoters don't let you know your assigned spot until you arrive on the day of the show.

It is always a panicking time for me when I arrive at a show and don't know where I will be - especially if I parked my van far away from my assigned spot.

It bugs me too that I cannot let my collectors know which spot I will be in prior to the show - on my Events page on my website.

There has to be a reason. Does anyone know?

Thank you,

Jeff Owen

  • Jeff-- those are the one's that seem to make up the assignments the night before.... Perhaps waiting for last minute sign-ups.

  • The show's I am writing about don't have a program or any indication of an artist list on their website. If anything, they have a printed sheet of paper that has artists locations that they hand out to festival goers.

  • From a promoter's viewpoint, in addition to Richard's valid suggestion, maybe it's because of the requests and complaints that come with advance notification.  Many considerations go into our booth assignments:  media balance throughout the venue; requests sent with applications; allergies; weak bladders; artists who don't want to be near other artists; physical limitations; and the list goes on.   Booth assignments are definitely not done the night before ... the program goes to the printer a month in advance.

  • I get the impression, that for some shows, they figure out the assignments the night before the show....

  • Those who do not follow the rules would be trying to set up early, and getting in the way of show staff preparing for artists who do follow the rules about set up time and place.
