Reasons why I hate Facebook

Social media is a good place to market your artwork.  It's also a great place to waste time and find out more than you really wanted to know about your friends and acquaintances.  Overall, I think that the annoyances of Facebook are a small price to pay for the free exposure and connections you can make.  On the other hand, I spend WAY too much time on the computer.

What are your thoughts on Facebook and other social media?  Obviously, the more specific it is to your area of interest the better (like AFI).

Here are six reasons why I've had some trouble with Facebook.  How about you?

Okay, I'm going to go and draw now.  Happy selling!

  • I try and limit myself to about 15min in the morning on Facebook and then a quick check in the afternoon.  If I'm working its all good as I'm totally involved but if I'm not feeling dedicated to my work, I drift off and waste time there.  *sigh*

  • I have lots of friends on FB and enjoy catching up, inspiring each other, laughing together, etc. Lately though, all of the political views of people is keeping me off FB very easily. FB is such a time suck anyway, I check in 1-2 times a day. That's it.

  • hah, I did the same thing :-) I was across from the firehouse next to the corner in the parking lot. It was exciting to watch the wind blow the side tarps inward enough for the rain or spray to blow upwards into the tent between the canopy overhang and the sides. I had one piece get the matte damaged, so that wasn't too bad. I still can see those cheap tents further down the row, and thinking on Friday during set-up that those weren't going to hold up if a heavy rain hit. Well, I had better quit my ADDH activities and exercising my procrastination, and get some canvas prints cranked out.

  • I did Long Grove too and waited out the tornado in my tent, not realizing that everyone had been evacuated.  It's supposed to be a beautiful weekend so we have that going for us!!!

  • It was okay last year. Not spectacular, but considering that a 60mph thunderstorm swept through with tornado warnings and collapsed tents, it wasn't bad. I met all expenses and had a few hundred left over when all was said and done, which is more than a lot of my shows this year. Hope your show goes well also :-)

  • How about my "instrustive"?  That really should be a word.  Hope Long grove is good for you... I'm doing Lincolnshire and feeling nervous.

  • Heh, I didn't catch the other part about "mime us" either. All of a sudden I had this visual of an entire art fair of mimes in their tents. Sheesh, I'm letting the pressure of this weekend's show in Long Grove get to me. I think I'll get a beer before I go back to printing and matting ;-)
  • Karole, you are my hero and I wish I could muster that discipline!!!  On one hand, I used to so enjoy my glass of wine and silly games.  So much of life is heavy and serious... it was like a long backscratch for my ADD (plus wine).  But it just got out of hand.  I should really set a schedule for myself and attempt to stick to it.  Robert, I sort of thought "infuses" was an interesting choice.  FB can be intrustive.  I've heard from many people that Twitter is better, less frivilous, more to the point.  Hmmm.  100 Facebook likes for $50?  That's just weird.

  • Arggh! Don't compose replies on a smart phone with auto-correct =8-O
"Infuses" up there should be "I suppose". It doesn't help that the 15 minute edit window decided to take another coffee break as it seems to do frequently.
