Naperville, IL 58th Annual Women's Club Art Fair

I attended this art fair June 24-25, 2017.  The show was well attended but disappointing with respect to sales.  It cost $300 to enter the show and I only did $640 in sales...hardly worth the transportation cost, etc.  There was fairly steady traffic both days and weather was great but people were not buying.  None of the artists near me did much at all.  I can't speak for other artists not near me but I likely will not return.

I had been told that Naperville patrons love art and were willing to purchase art work.  Not so for this show.

  • I agree with Bari...I was set up next to him.  The setup organization was horrible.  I couldn't get near my assigned space and had to haul my tent, tables and merchandise about half a block to set up. I doubt if I will attend again.

  • I too did this show for the fourth year in a row. Last year I did OK but this year I made $8.50 after all the expenses!
I was also put in a different area than in previous years, the crowded area of 60 booths that were lined up in three back to back rows I decided to call: "The Stockades". I don't know if that made any difference but I concur with the other posts that though the crowds seemed decent, sales were low.

It's a pity, since the venue is attractive and the potential was there with unusually cool weather.

I'm not sure I'll do this show again. Then again, I'm uncertain I'll be doing anymore show after this season, but that's another story.

The organizing group also had an issue with the set up in my area which delayed my set up start by an hour and a half as I sat with other vehicles waiting to get close to my spot.
  • I agree with Robert - nice people, nice venue, disappointing sales last year. I was one and done as well.

  • The Naperville folks buy at the Riverwalk show, not the NWC show. I did it once; nice folks, nice venue, nice artist's supper (although not any more, from what I hear). Unfortunately nice doesn't translate into sales. It was a one and done for me.
