Ipod with The Square?

Anyone out there use a Ipod Touchscreen with The Square?  I know it needs WiFi so I was wondering if it was good to use at an art fair?  I'm thinking not because of that but would like to know if anyone does use an Ipod with it and what they thought about it.

  • My husband just found a gizmo called, "The sleeve" that can go on the Ipod and give you internet capability without the Wifi.  It's supposed to launched soon and apple says it will be free (if you have limited use).  That would be ideal for me as wouldn't use it very much in a month.  I don't have an Iphone or anything "I" :)  They also have Wifi routers you can take around with you for around $5 a month.  You have to plug it in though and I don't always have a festival with electricity....just sharing some things I've been researching.  Ipod is free (after purchase) with The Square (which has better rates) and The sleeve is said to be free (with a limited use plan).  Will be interesting to see what that means...

  • They do have an Ipad (not pod) with a cellular plan  (its been around for a couple years) and I use my with the square all the time at festivals.

If you can get WiFi - you should be good to go, try it at home first and run a couple of test transactions but, you get stuck out somewhere.

  • You need to use an iphone to create a personal wifi access point. But if you can do that, you don't need the ipod.

At this point, I'd wait until they come out with a seven inch ipad with a cellular data plan. Rumored to be released in September I think.

  • That's what I thought...Ipod seemed too good to be true.

  • Depends on whether there is wifi at the fair you're doing. If there is it works great, if there isn't it doesn't work at all. Most I do don't have free wifi. You're better off with a smart phone or ipad w/wifi if you want to depend on using square.

  • How reliable is that at an art fair Lori?  Or is there a way to get wifi on the Ipod?

  • works perfectly as long as you have wifi
