  • Just as a follow-up to this post:  I got into the Harding Show so will be going in May!

  • Shows can be confusing. Back when I first started doing shows I bought the Art Fair Sourcebook and studied the shows and all the information on the pages. It was before the internet. It helped me a lot. I hope I get to meet you at the next Fall show.
  • Thanks Susan.  I guess my info wasn't quite correct as I spend time in Nashville where my son settled with his family after Vanderbilt but not a member of the arts community.  I've called and written sources and never seemed to get it all cleared up until your post.  So the show I love to do which is the fall craft fair in Centennail Park is put on by TACA...that part I have correct.  Because of our age and distance (NJ) I can really only do one show in Nashville and I'm pleased (and honored) to have been chosen for this twice.  What a great venue...great city...

Again, thanks for clearing this up and sorry for my misinformation, well intentioned.  Ann

  • I just want to clear up the previous post.  I am a Tennessee artist and have been doing the shows here for over 15 years. The Tennessee Crafts Fair, put on by TACA(Tennessee Association of Craft Artists) is for Tennessee artists and takes place in Centennial Park the first full weekend in May, the same weekend as the Harding Arts Show. The American Artisan Festival (June, Fathers Day weekend) is now put on now by Samantha Saturn and Jerry Dale McFadden (4 Bridges, Chattanooga) has nothing to do with TACA. The Fall Craft Fair in Centennial Park, the last full weekend in September is the TACA show which has national/international artists. Only the TACA shows have an on site jury that scores for the next year. In the case of the American Artisan Festival one must reapply each year, not sure about the Harding Art Show.
  • I do know Nancy passed away and I did the show after she died.  I believe it's her daughter who has taken over running it.  Since this is run by TACA (Tennessee Association of Craft Artists) it isn't the same as if a profit-making promoter is no longer available. There seemed to be plenty of volunteer help and during the show groups of jurors from the association walked around with clipboards and asked questions and scored everyone.  If your score is high enough you are automatically invited without having to jury.  You're lucky if you live in TN because you're eligible for all of their shows - I am only eligible for the one at the end of September where they open it up.
  • Hi Albert, thanks for the response.  Unfortunately Nancy passed away in 2010 so I wonder how the show is doing without her........

  • Nashville is a great area. I have done Nancy Saturns show at Centennial Park twice and it was a great experience. The people were very warm and friendly and so were the artists participating in the show.

My work also found many homes in the area.

There is also a Heritage Festival in franklin in late April and while I have never done it I have heard good things about it.

  • Hi Ann,

Sorry to hear about your flooding....I lived in NJ for 18 years but on the top of a 'mountain' in Bedminster!  (we moved to IN in 2003).  We were there though in 1999? for the big 12" storm that devasted Bound Brook among other spots.  This last storm one of my nieces had no power for a week.

I am a contemporary landscape painter.  Prices are from 295 - 3500.  www.maryjohnstonpaintings.com.  (I do have some prints too although not a huge amount).  My daughter just moved to Franklin beginning of September so was hoping to find something there in the area that was right for me.  Thanks for your response.

  • My son and his family live in Nashville and I've done the University School show and Centennial Park.  Unfortunately, I had to bow out of the Nashville show this year at the last minute because of flooding (I live in New Jersey and had my studio, office and lower level flooded.  I'm not familiar with the Harding show but that's certainly an affluent area of Nashville.  What do you do and what's your price range?  Ann
  • Hey Mary!!! Call me, we can discuss...
