Columbus Art Fair

I just got called off the wait list for the Columbus show.  I've never done it before and I'm wondering if anyone out there can give any advice.  What's a good spot to choose?  Is it worth the drive from IL?  I will really be squeezing this one in so I want to make an informed discussion so I don't regret it?  I know of course everyone's experiences are different, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

  • I am looking for a hotel close to the Columbus show,  need to know what area of Columbus to bid on , with in 10-15 mins of the show..thanks
  • Thanks much Connie.  I thought this was one of the big deal ones, so u answered my question as well as my other thoughts.  Am definitely going to try it!  Like u said, u gotta live and learn.  I will now have 4 weekends back to back with alot of driving which is alot for me so I was a bit hesitant.  And hey, after handling the longest hrs at Ann Arbor, everything else pales in comparison!  Thanks again!
  • This is one of the "big deal" shows, Alison, and I'd say definitely worth a try. As with any show, what is great for some is not much for others, so you live and learn, the nature of the business. Big crowds, but lots of artists, and therefore, lots of competition.  Your work is definitely unique and I think will get attention. Long hours -- take your vitamins. AND do a review on ArtShowReviews.com when you get home!!!
  • Thanks for that!  So u think the show is worth trying?  That is a very high tax at 19%..  I don't think Chgo is even that high.  Thanks too for the heads up on the space.  My artwork is very heavy and very breakable so if I could be that close to my car, it would help tons.  I take it the street spots get alot of traffic too?
  • I would suggest getting a booth on the street that is next to the artists' parking lot.  Last  year, I was about 30' from my van.  Sweet!  That way you can park your van and dolly/carry your work to your booth and reverse the flow on takedown.

Lodging is very pricey in Columbus, even out in the suburbs, about 20 minutes away.  The lodging tax is almost 19%, so add that to whatever the room rate is.  Go on Priceline or your choice of bidding sites.  Go to the awards breakfast, the food is terrific!

  • Btw, I do a different type of stained glass.  www.alisonsstainedglass.com
