  • Thanks for the picture of the kitty.  Petting the cat was the high point of my show at Boca so that tells you what kind of show I had.

  • Annette, move over to this side of the world.  We want you over here with us.

Melanie, I loved the purses and shoes comment.  Made me laugh out loud.

Scott, great photos.  Nice review, too.

  • Thanks for the review and the photos!   I do enjoy living vicariously through the shows over there :)

  • Huh, must have been at another Boca Show. The one I was at was horrible. Oh, the guy next to me selling crocheted oxygen koozies did well, but 2-D was a bust. This was not a destination, it relied on people frequenting the pedestrian restaurants (Ruby Tuesday) for traffic. It was not listed in the weekend things to do section of the paper and signage was dismal.

  • What a good job on this review, Scott, complete with good photos. Thanks so much. And how wonderful that you had great sales. Melanie, thanks for your photos and comments too. I think we all get the picture here. It is a lovely affluent area, but you really need to have what they want and if you do they will buy it. We did this Boca show "back in the day" when it was at the Boca Center and it was well attended and one of the big ones. Sales were good but some of the people were tricky. I picked up one of my favorite quotes there. "Dear, I never pay retail."

  • I feel as though attendance did slip a bit this year, but sometimes it can be tough to tell.
  • Sunday same time, better crowd.301644445?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

  • I took this pic on Saturday at 1:30pm. from my booth.301645599?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

  • Glad you had a great show Scott.  I was in the same location as you but on the East side.  The east side didn't experience the same as the west I guess.  The 2d artist I talked to sold but I don't know anyone who did great.   I did see some purchases walking by on Sunday afternoon.  Compared to last year attendance was WAY down.  Most of Saturday we could almost hear the crickets.  On Sunday we had a ceramic artist move from their spot to an empty space near me because it was so slow off the main path.  Sunday the crowds were much better, but still no big doggie show.  Yes there were pets, even a ferret and a parrot, but they weren't on "parade" like last year.  Last year there was a ton of dressed up dogs, they even had wardrobe changes through out the day.  Some of the patrons said the advertising seemed to imply this was going to be an indoor show in the Museum.  I was not far from Starbucks and I had 2 different people on Saturday who were in their PJs picking up their morning coffee, and they were shocked there was a show.  They had no idea.

The purses and shoes are some of the best I have seen at any show.  I saw many  limited LV purses.  Money and price points aren't really an issue.  The Boca folks keep you on your toes and keep you busy.   I am always glad when I stay in the area for the week following a Boca show to tie up leads.

Scott you did a great job describing the set up and break down.  I did see a bunch of volunteers surveying the patrons during the show.  They were doing a survey to get a grant for the museum.  I was told the booth vendors didn't matter for this survey.  Other then that I had no interaction with the folks that run the show.  All the artists that do this show have done many in the past, so we all just figure it out together.  One great thing about doing this show is that almost everyone is set up very close to or in front of a restaurant.   My restaurant would bring us whatever we wanted with linens, ice water in a goblet and everything to our booth or where ever we wanted it.  Plus we could use their potty.  You all know I love it when I have a proper potty at a show.  Actually there are tons of options for indoor restrooms at this show.  They do set up porta potties, but you don't have to use them.  Also Ruby Tuesday sent Kyle around the show with a menu and he would deliver whatever you wanted, including beer and ice.  So no need for the volunteers to bring you water, breakfast or snacks.  We had plenty of options.

It was great to see old friends and meet knew ones.   I am done with Boca shows this year, but I know the Boca ladies will keep me busy for the next month.

  • You had me with your opening picture, Scott!  Great review!
