ASKING FOR ADVICE

One of our shows has ask the vendors

A. Change the dates  to September 17 & 18 (only two

days) but keep the event at the same location

OR

B. Hold the event on the three-day weekend( Columbus Day)

but move the event to a different venue.

whats your advice ? ... my thoughts .. be now most artisans show schedules are made ( I know ours is) BUT changing the location is also tricky.

  • I am not familiar with this show, so I would defer to those who are.  But I do think if a venue change or date change is better for the show, now is the time to do it.  The public has been alerted to the changing rules and location of their local art fairs and will follow to a new venue.

  • I would not move the Letchworth show to another location.  I used to do this show some years back, and I believe that the location of this show is almost more important than who is in the show. The location here is everything!

  • arggh. should be "state of flux"

  • Most shows are in a state of lux. Cheery Creek just changed dates, and shifted to a nearby location, for this year. Bears canceling. I would say move the date, keep the same location.

  • The above question came from the Arts Council who run the Letchworth Arts & Crafts show...a very popular event that has always been on the 3-day Columbus Day Weekend. It attracts a huge crowd to the over 300 exhibitors. It was cancelled in 2020 due to Covid.

This is the Letchworth (NY) Arts and Crafts Show. The Arts Council who runs the show is asking exhibitors what they would prefer. From what I hear, the Arts Council and the Letchworth State Park officials are at odds dealing with state CDC restrictions. Letchworth in the fall (Oct. 9-11) is a hugely popular park to visit in the fall and attracts many thousands to the park and the Art & Craft show. I believe the arts council is trying to appease the park officials by moving to a less popular fall-viewing date. I have asked the Arts Council what the alternative location would be, but they have not said where. My feeling is what makes this popular show is not only the variety of exhibitors, but the actual setting in the beautiful surroundings of Letchworth. If they said what the alternative location is, it would make the decision a bit easier to make.

  • Is this a new event? Would this be a big change on the usual date? Do you think the event can support 3 days of sales, which means more outlay for the exhibitors participating? Any idea why they are soliciting your input?
