What about all the different societies devoted to specific mediums? There are numerous pastel societies, watercolor, Oil Painters of America, etc. There's Silvermine Guild, Knickerbocker Artists, etc. etc. etc. There's just a plethora of opportunity with these. I just don't have time to detail anymore now. I used to subscribe to Art Deadlines List and Art Calendar.
International Artist Magazine has a competition. All the mags devoted to mediums have them, like Pastel Journal. Photography has a BUNCH of mags plus competitions. Fort Collins, CO has a monthly call for photography, and they have small prizes. Here's PHOTOSPIVA in Joplin, MO. I can't even remember the big one in Kansas City.
How about Butler Institute of Art National Midyear? How about the Art Renewal Center Salon Show, but you've just missed the deadline.
ETC ETC ETC ETC ETC ETC ETC
I think you probably want to check the art magazines at Borders. That's usually where competitions list their call for entry. Also check to see if any are using Café, ZAPP's sister application system. http://www.callforentry.org or maybe juried Art Services. You can even contact the blog owner for the article I just posted the link to.
