Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals

The Coconut Grove Arts Festival is one of the big ones, highly publicized, well-attended and in an amazing setting. They do all the PR, including holding a gala to show off their poster. The poster artist is usually someone with an international reputation.

If you are interested in knowing more about this show you should find this article of use. It has photos of all the people who put it together whose names may be familiar to you, including Monty Trainor, Lilia Garcia and Katrina Delgado: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tom-falco/2015-coconut-grove-arts-f_b...

Ha! and you see where this story is showing up? In the Huffington Post! Do these folks have connections? Even if it is a "slow news day", still this is great coverage.

I liked to better when they used an artist from the show to create the poster and t-shirt.

Me too. We were next to the poster artist one year, Maria Reyes, and she had an amazing show!

All the little things that made this show great for artists are now gone. The competition that they held to pick the poster artist, the trolley with the buyers, the great jazz music, is all gone. They do still have the artists go into the schools and demo, for free. Of course, we all know Miami is a poor town and cannot afford to pay the artists for their knowledge. They do have the pompous director who calls himself "the mayor of Coconut Grove" driving around in his golf cart. And yet, I still do the show. Obviously, this is the definition of insanity. Will someone commit me to a mental institution?

All us us, even artists, need to be in Florida on President's Weekend -- I dream of being there again. Usually wonderful weather, everyone having a good time, and often good sales. You must enjoy one of those perks at least, Barry.

I enjoy staying at Geri Wegner's and complaining about how good the Grove used to be. Seriously, the weather is great. 82 degrees and sunny. I don't ever remember it raining in Miami that weekend. There are 3 other options in Florida that same weekend and I still think it's the best option. Oscar left his spot 3 booths down to go to Art Grass. I don't think the grass is greaner in West Palm.

Speaking of Florida, I started firing my pots today for the trip down south. I got some really good results even though I froze my buns off. I see that it is only going to gradually get colder the next 5 days. I probably won't sell much and will have plenty of good ones for Bonnie's Garage Sale.

You have to add an edit button. I misspelled green and can't change it now. It must be brain freeze. I've been inside for the last hour with all my layers still on and I can't get warm.

You misspelled more than green (er, uh, greener) BB. But I won't mention what else. Maybe you should have gone back to college for spelling or proofreading rather than pottery this past summer. HA!

Hey, I was cold and tired when I wrote that.

However, I was not too tired to notice in the teaser on the home page, it says Geri Wenger. If you alertly looked at the actual post you will see that I correctly wrote Wegner. Geri is no wenger. I'll bet you didn't catch that. And, I always refer to Artigras is Art Grass, a simple play on words. It fit the "grass is greener" comment.

(to Barry - I edited the spelling of Geri's last name in your comment, as I know you wouldn't misspell the name of a good friend willingly, and because I know Geri is a stickler for the truth. Hope you've thawed out by now.)
