2015 Poster Unveiled at Coconut Grove

The Coconut Grove Arts Festival is one of the big ones, highly publicized, well-attended and in an amazing setting. They do all the PR, including holding a gala to show off their poster. The poster artist is usually someone with an international reputation.

If you are interested in knowing more about this show you should find this article of use. It has photos of all the people who put it together whose names may be familiar to you, including Monty Trainor, Lilia Garcia and Katrina Delgado: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tom-falco/2015-coconut-grove-arts-f_b_6528768.html

Ha! and you see where this story is showing up? In the Huffington Post! Do these folks have connections? Even if it is a "slow news day", still this is great coverage.

  • I'm just waiting for you to post your booth image so we can all critique it to get you ready for your new big shows this year ...

  • 2200 miles is a long way to go even if the show is good. It is still possible to have a great Grove show, but, it is still risky. You need the right customers and the competition is still great because the artists are of a high level.

Anyone can razz me at any time. Nothing any of you might say will upset me. Consider that you may be right. I'm a stickler for good grammar but I don't always check my spelling. Connie, you tried to make me look good. Sometimes that is not possible. Plus, we all say things sometimes that we don't mean or want to take back.

  • I should mention that this was during Christmas, and we were pushing 25 below zero then and had way more snow than we've ever had on the ground here in Kirby, Wyoming. The snow has only just started thawing a little, too. We had rain yesterday on top of all this snow. Very unusual winter. But we ain't got nothin' on the Noreasters, and probably not much on you lake-effect dwellers, either.

Back to the thread topic. I may never see Coconut Grove since we just don't get down that far. I think it's too expensive, too. Central Florida is even 2,200 miles for us, far enough. I can't imagine doing the trip in winter, either. What? Leave the snowy sub-zero wintry Wyoming open range? It'll probably never happen.

  • I was just razzing BB because he did something similar recently with Peter Voulkos's name. I know he knows how to spell it.

One time I sent an artwork order to a good customer, but I wrote the wrong last name on her package. OUCH! She's not been my customer since. And just this past season I sent an order to a new customer in Orlando, double boxed, and on the inside box I wrote something like "Custom made for so-and-so" and most likely used a "C" for the first letter of her last name when in fact it starts with "K". It was such a nicely packed box, tight and clean. I didn't want to open it to check, so I just sent it on and then in an email to her I mentioned I might have misspelled her last name inside the box. Goofy, I know, since I should have just opened the box and checked. But I had also used all the tape and wouldn't be able to seal it up again. Blah, blah, blah.

  • (to Barry - I edited the spelling of Geri's last name in your comment, as I know you wouldn't misspell the name of a good friend willingly, and because I know Geri is a stickler for the truth. Hope you've thawed out by now.)

  • However, I was not too tired to notice in the teaser on the home page, it says Geri Wenger. If you alertly looked at the actual post you will see that I correctly wrote Wegner. Geri is no wenger. I'll bet you didn't catch that. And, I always refer to Artigras is Art Grass, a simple play on words. It fit the "grass is greener" comment.

  • Hey, I was cold and tired when I wrote that.

  • You misspelled more than green (er, uh, greener) BB. But I won't mention what else. Maybe you should have gone back to college for spelling or proofreading rather than pottery this past summer. HA!

  • You have to add an edit button. I misspelled green and can't change it now. It must be brain freeze. I've been inside for the last hour with all my layers still on and I can't get warm.

  • I enjoy staying at Geri Wegner's and complaining about how good the Grove used to be. Seriously, the weather is great. 82 degrees and sunny. I don't ever remember it raining in Miami that weekend. There are 3 other options in Florida that same weekend and I still think it's the best option. Oscar left his spot 3 booths down to go to Art Grass. I don't think the grass is greaner in West Palm.

Speaking of Florida, I started firing my pots today for the trip down south. I got some really good results even though I froze my buns off. I see that it is only going to gradually get colder the next 5 days. I probably won't sell much and will have plenty of good ones for Bonnie's Garage Sale.
