"The Landlord" is a multi-media sculpture designed to be displayed on a shelf. She is a one of several little felt figures called "Earth-felt People" I created to inspire contemplation for our spiritual connection with the earth. She would make the perfect gift to honor a bird-lover, landlord, special teacher, mentor, auntie, or a beloved friend.This figure is approximately 6 inches high (measured in the sitting position); her feet are meant to dangle over the edge of the shelf on which she sits. I hand-sewed her parka, snow pants, mittens, and mukluks from wool felt fabric. I created her braids from sheep's wool fibers dyed a rich chocolate brown, and molded her face from polymer clay. I constructed the tiny birdhouse from basswood, which I stained and painted in warm autumn colors to match her outfit. "The Landlord" feels a deep responsibility to look after her feathered tenents, and finds great peace in doing so.
