Has anyone done these shows?

I guess this is a little belated since I've already signed up for these shows, but has anyone done

Zona Rosa in Missouri,
Art in the park, garden city, Kansas

Georgetown Art and Wine, Georgetown, TX

Art in the Park, Dallas

Any info would be great.
Thanks!

  • One thing I seem to hear from artists in this website and at shows is that shows are way down all over for most of us. The norm of good sales is history. I had one "good" show all year. And of course when we compare today's shows with "the good old days", most of them don't measure up.

One thing I DON'T HEAR is the shows themselves acknowledge that sales are down for most exhibiting artists. And of course the booth fees don't go down, the app fees don't go down, gas, hotels and food ditto there too. So the net is we earn less but pay the same.

Is this the long lean era of disappointing art sales? Functional stuff still seems to sell because buyers can rationalize the purchase. "Oh we can use that cutting board."

And of course even during Armageddon, women will still be buying jewelry (and shoes).

why not have an art show with just jewelry, clothing, cutting boards, and baby clothes?

    Would they know the difference?

  • Ernie Komarek, there is another show here in Estes Patk, CO that some of this show's artists are doing I two weeks. I have not done it. Elk Fest is another one near the end of Sept.(?). I signed up to do it last year bout the floods took care of that and I decided to end everything by Labor Day ( too many "honey do" projects to get done before it snows). The other big show here is in a May over Memorisl Day and there is a new one in June.
  • WTG, Richard. I passed on Estes this year and showed at Red Feather Lakes where I know lots of people. Their advertising sucked so I primed the crowd with emails and phone work to find my buyers in advance. Did well, but I'm thinking my subject matter will go over well in Estes next year's Labor Day weekend.

  • In 2011 I did $2.2K at Georgetown 2 day show, and $2K at La Cantera 3-day show (Lynette Wallacde, Blue Lotus shows).  Not returning because I can do this or better at Colorado shows and have higher margins. Don't know which Colorado Shows Megan thinks are shitty. Most are good for at least $1K/day. Just finished 3-days in Estes park for $4.4K and up from last year.

  • Houston is 200 miles from Georgetown.  They do not even know the show exists.  Austin people do not come to the Georgetown show and that is a ten mile drive.  I did Georgetown the first four years and did poorly.  I just wanted to support Lynette Wallace since we have been friends for years.  Dallas Art In The Park?... run far, far away... fast.  The Georgetown show is downtown on the square and is as perfect a spot for an art show as there could be but never forget... there is a "Sun City" retirement compound in Georgetown... enough said.

  • One good thing about bad shows I've done. I get a lot of email addresses even from non buyers who seem to like my work. Then I'm in contact with them with my newsletter and some of them actually do a commission or break down and buy from my web site when they do have $$$. Dallas? Fuggeddaboudit.

  • Tht sucks. Looks like I'm following up a bunch of shitty Colorado shows with a bunch of shitty non-Colorado shows.
  • Art in the Park Dallas.

In spite of Dallas being a huge city, their art shows have always sucked. Ft. Worth is organized and single minded. Dallas is dis-organized and full of factions which is why they have not had good art shows for over 20 years. Money there? For sure? Are sense?

No comment. I'd pass. Jeff Leedy

  • I did Georgetown about 4 years ago and it was awful. If Houston people come to it now, it might get better. Heat is oppressive. Can't say much good but will depend on what you're selling and who shows up. Don't think I'd do it again.

  • Megan, I am not sure I have heard anyone do a review on those shows.  You can try putting each name into our search bar and if it has been discussed, it will come up.  Also, check www.artshowreviews.com.  There may be a review on one of those shows there.

Just checked and Zona Rosa has been discussed.  Click here.
