  • I may have to give it another try then :-)

  • Hi Robert, I'm "the daughter." :-) I'm a steampunk jewelry designer and I have a following in Youngstown just from doing this show every year, this was my 4th year. I was stunned, how many people came back looking for me, it made me feel so good! I had a customer come back this year with watch parts she'd been saving for me to use! Really, the BEST customers/public of all the shows I've done. It is along the courtyard sidewalks, I happen to get a spot up top by the trees and "the rock" which is really nice. I'm guessing there is between 100 - 150 vendors. They line all the events up so the Cultural Event and the Jazz Fest are all the same weekend so you get a nice crowd! Each year it's been one of my highest grossing shows and my pieces are anywhere from $5 - $60. I really look forward to this show every year. I'm not sure on attendance numbers but there was certainly a nice crowd!

  • It sounds as though the show has become larger. Any idea of the attendance? What is your daughter's media? When I did it, the booths were arranged along the sidewalks inside a courtyard with several large campus buildings all around, and there was a lot of room behind the booths to set up a deep awning if you wanted to. At the time, Youngstown's economy had tanked well before 2008, and sales were miserable.

  • Yes, this was the YSU campus. The location was gorgeous, we were under a cluster of trees and the temp was better than last year which was 102 degrees. My daughter and I stayed at a hotel which she booked early and through a site for a great price. The organizers kept everyone well informed, well hydrated by coming around with water every hour or so, asking if we needed a break and made sure it was easy in and easy out!! No waiting 2 hours for the public to get out of the way. If I remember right, the hours were 10am to 7pm Saturday and Sunday 11am to 5pm. At 5pm we were packing and folks were still buying ...rushing back to see if we still had favorite pieces they saw earlier. Not sure of the exact number of exhibitors I am guessing 175? This is the 4th year my daughter has been a exhibitor and will be back for a 5th!
  • Is this the one that takes place on the YSU campus? If it is, it's a different experience. The last time I did it, they offered cheap lodging in the dorms, something like $15-20 a night. Since it's the summer, students were in the only dorm open. Let's just say I was surprised as I walked down the hallway in the mixed gender dorm to my room :-)

My sales were so-so, and I didn't repeat it after a couple of years of doing the show. It was a nice show, but not lots of traffic, friendly organizers, and about 70 artists as best I recall.

Do everyone a favor, though, and fill in the details about the show.

  • Tell us more, Lynn. What was so good about it? Location, organizers, hours, # of exhibitors, etc. Love to know more.
