Reviews of Fairfax-area shows, Oct. 8-9?

I (and others) posted last week about two shows in the Fairfax, VA area last weekend.  Could anyone report how they made out?  You don't need to write a full review unless you want to...but it would be nice to know your medium, how you made out sales-wise, how the attendance was, and if anyone visiting your booth mentioned the other show.

Thanks in advance!

  • I also did the Farifax show and did under 1K.  I was rather shocked that this show with perfect weather, great art, and nice venue was the worst of my non-Florida fall shows.  The people seemed bored and uninterested at my end.  I do think Bill Kinney tries very hard and he puts on a real art festival, no bouncy houses in sight and buy-sell rules are enforced.  I will try the spring one if it fits in my schedule but there are other options for me for this weekend in the fall so I may try something else.
  • Yep, you're right--I've just done 9 shows in a row with 2 more coming up. Haven't had a chance to write reviews yet, so, I shouldn't have jumped in so quickly to comment. My bad. Will be more careful in the future. :-0
  • I think you are thinking of the Silver Spring show. The fairfax show was on only one street, with no break in booths. My big sale's friend saw it in the paper and brought her friend along. Thank goodness they came. I did not hear anybody say that they saw advertisement at the Silver Spring show.
  • I did the Paragon show. Was on the other street (not the main grouping). Many of us did not fair as well as the people in the main section. I had zero sales both days. My neighbors around me didn't make booth fee. A few booths down, they made just above booth fee. When I saw Bill's report on the show, it was hard to swallow. He said that jewelers were doing 3k. Not on our block. The people that we were staying with (who go to art shows), said that they only saw one small poster (which was in a side window of a store). Wish we could have done at least booth fee. That would have helped.....oh well  :-(  Next week is a new week and a different promoter-onward and upward!
  • Thanks, Brett! Glad you pulled it out. Welcome back to Florida, and thanks for the post!

For those of you who may not understand the reference to "Bill,"  Brett means "Bill Kinney," the promoter of Paragon.

Did any of you do the other Fairfax show??

  • Sorry for the late post. I have been traveling back home to Florida after being on the road for 4.5 months.

I made only $179 on Saturday, so I was worried going into Sunday, but I ended up grossing almost $2,700. A few others made 3k or so and a few made well above that, but many made around 1k. I had one big sale or I would have made around 1k.

Set up and load out were easy. The weather was perfect. The patrons were mostly from the area and shopping at the stores, but several saw the ads (including my big sale) and came. The REI store across from me had a major sale going on the entire weekend.

My 2 biggest sales came after I left me booth after not have many sales. So if you are in a sour mood it may help to leave for a few minutes. Bill is trying hard to make these shows work. They should get better with time.

  • I live in Fairfax and attended the Paragon show on late Sunday afternoon. It was a beautiful day and there was some light, steady foot traffic. I asked one of the jewelers how her weekend was and she said it was "ok".  She did the spring show and has great hopes for this shows future, and will probably continue to apply to this show if Paragon still has it on their schedule. There were at least 4 events this particular weekend that competed with this show; however they were more festival/craft oriented. Two of those four shows have been around a very long time, are well established and attract crowds of people, so I am sure this may have had some impact on the attendance.
