Polling the Community- Christmas Shows

I am planning to do my first round of Christmas shows this years. I am a 2d artist- ( decorative fiber- or 2d mixed media ) My work is fabric but looks like paintings-www.sharontesser.com I create pieces of every subject matter. I wondered at Christmas time if people purchase a certain type or genre of work for the holiday. What I know is in Kentucky I sell every horse I make- in Michigan the same is true for beach scenes. I am completely at a loss for Christmas in Ohio- except price point- my expectation is to keep things under $100. All experiences and advice welcome. Thanks in advance

  • good to know about Winterfair Columbus as I am in it this year.. and I make jewelry.

  • If you are planning on doing Columbus Winterfair all I can say is don't get your hopes up for much. I've done it 3 years running bc what else is there to do around here in winter, and I've never lost money but I generally profit between $500-$800 which for a three day show with loooong hours that's pretty crappy in my book (especially considering I'm local so there's no hotel cost eating at profits either). The fact is, people aren't there for 2-D work. They want things that are good little Christmas presents, like jewelry or wood salt and pepper shakers. So bring lots of small gift items and a couple big pieces just in case you get lucky, but don't expect much. Then you won't be too disappointed.
  • I live in Ohio, near Columbus. State pride is big in Ohio. Anything with an Ohio on it has sold well for me!
  • Any ideas for GOOD Florida shows in December is appreciated.  Last 2 years December was a bomb for us.

  • I'm looking for a show near N Indiana, because the local one here got cancelled.

  • I live in/near Ohio ... since I am on the Kentucky side I get the horse thing... lol.  I looked at your website and if I were you I'd take a variety.  Oddly enough in Cincinnati chickens are hot... but don't limit your work to that.  Good luck... I am waiting to get the yea or nay from both Winterfairs...so maybe I'll see  you there!
