Has anyone done the People's Choice Festival of Pa. in Boalsburg, that runs at the same time as the Central Penna. Festival of the Arts in State College? I would be interested in opinions on both. Thanks.
Diane, hope to see you at the show. Just to be clear, some of the spaces (the newer artists) are placed in new spaces inside of the circle. They don't have the room to have thier vans behind their booths, but can drive in before and after the show hours to restock. That's why I said 'most' artists.
You are right Connie, the answers were great. A lot of artists recommend the State College show, but of course also tell you about the drawbacks. Since my art is large and heavy (and there is the whole thing about where to park an extend cab truck with a 16' trailer) I have not been inclined to apply to State College. I am going to apply to the People's Choice show and hope to be accepted!
I hadn't looked at this discussion before. Wow! What great answers. Great details from Larry and a testimonial from Laurie. So, what are you going to do Diane?
This is one of my favorite shows and one of my best shows. It is a delight to do because of the set up. The artists are placed in a large circle with the inside of the circle being the 'front' of your booth. Most artist can park their vans behind their booths and work out of them! I've done the show for about 15 years and do very well there. I've never even applied to the Central PA Festival of the Arts, but have friends that do it. I usually beat them sales-wise at People's choice.
What do you want to know. State College is arguably the number two show in PA, Long's Park being number one. The People's Choice show was started by George Marion when he was unable to get into State College just over 20 years ago. Over the years the show has consistently gotten good reviews from the artists who do it. It is limited to PA artists though. And it's location is chosen to catch the traffic going to the State College show.

Here's a good article about last years show from the local newspaper:

If you live in Pennsylvania and don't have anything else scheduled that weekend, it's an excellent option.
I know the deadline is coming up (December 1st) because I've gotten calls from local artists to help them prepare their images.
