Paragon Art Shows

Can anyone tell me anything about the sort of shows that are put on by Paragon?  I have a chance to participate in a new show in Dallas in November and I'm on the fence about it.  I need a November show and Dallas certainly has the people to support it.  I just don't know what sort of job Paragon does in relation to bringing the people in, how they treat the artists, etc.

This show is the first of a series of new shows they're starting in Texas, the others being in Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio.  Their booth fee is $395.00 which is reasonable but, for a brand new show.....................

The show is called the Dallas Fine Art Show and it may have possibilities but it comes right on the heels of Cottonwood which may hold a lot of people back.

On this one, I could use some advice from the pros!  And, thank you.

  • Now in Aug. 2013, anyone participate any of the 3 Nov. shows in Texas in 2012 and can share info?

  • Kimberly,

I, too, have decided to give the show a chance.  Glad to hear you'll be there.  At least we will each know we won't be the only one there.  If I can find you, I'll try to drop by your booth and say 'hello' during the show.  Maybe it will turn out to be a great show for both of us.  I haven't heard any negative comments about Paragon or their shows.

  • I did one Paragon show - they're in high-income areas, the one I did was in a shopping center...so there is a built-in audience... I thought Bill, since he's an artist as well, did a great job in making everything artist-friendly; he's also easy to get a hold of and talk to prior to the show if you have questions - call him. I am doing one of his shows this weekend in VA...and next month in NC.

  • Hey Don,

I appreciate you posting about this event.  I know there is information on the site about Paragon, but it is a new show, and I was wondering about it myself.  I know I researched on the site everything I could find about Paragon, but it was still nice to know someone else had questions too.  I think I am going to give it a try, how about you?

  • Geoff,

Thank you.  I hate to admit it but, in all the time I've been looking at this site, I didn't know that
Search function was there.  When it comes up on my screen the top portion of the page is cut off and one would never know it was there unless they did exactly as you recommended.  Thanks again.

  • John,

You might want to give them a call.   Their number is 631-421-1590 and I've exchanged a couple of emails with a girl named Laura.  She seems pretty nice.

  • I've applied to the Plano show, supposed to be notified on the 4th, nothing. Emailed three days later and was told that night or next morning, nothing since.

  • Hi Don: If you are interested in learning about Paragon and Bill Kinney, in general, scroll up to the top of this page and type Paragon (no quotation marks) in the search window at top right corner.  This will pull up every comment that's ever been made about his shows.

  • I have done several of Bill's shows in the Virginia, Maryland area.  There are a lot of positives about Bill's shows.  He used to do shows so he is in tune with a lot of our pet peeves.  He will shut down buy-sell in an instant.  If he has music at all it is not loud and obtrusive.  He will tell the Verizon people that their voices are not to be heard outside their booth (ie. no hawking).  But his shows are newer and he is trying out locations just like we are trying out shows and sometimes he fails.    Any first year show is a crap shoot but if your expenses are low I would vote for giving it a try.

  • Kimberly,

Like you, I applied to both and I haven't heard re Fort Worth either.  A long time ago, it seems I heard they were having a problem getting permits from the city.  I'm not sure.  If I hear anything I'll let you know.
