The awaited Spring/Summer art fair season in the upper Midwest seems to be succumbing to extensive storms. My weather info for the coming week is thunderstorms every day! and there is mold and mildew crawling up my house. It seems we are living in a rain forest rather than an arboreal forest.

So how goes it at the shows? Hope you all are prepared with good strong tents and weights as well as insurance.

Many members were in Columbus, OH, this weekend for the big show. Columbus had a flash storm four years ago and it was back again this year.

How did you get through this weekend? and how have you recovered with the end of May storms in the Chicago area? From the Millennium Art Festival in Chicago:

  • Yikes!

  • I remember last year's thunderstorm in Art-A-Licious in Adrain, MI981299667?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024301678009?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

  • Talbot Street, in Indianapolis, had very hot & humid on Saturday, energy was low. Sunday was a bit cooler but threatened rain. Finally after about 3:30 PM word went around that a storm was coming and people began to pack up. By 4 the teardown was in full swing. It began to look bad towards 5 PM and I had all of my art put away and the booth nearly completely broken down when a very kind young police officer came by and helped me sling the rest of the stuff in the van. Thanks to his help I was on my way when the serious rains came.

PS. sales ended up high average for me and many others around me.

  • It only rained at night, all night, at Old Town. I have special powers. I willed the rain to stay south and it worked. For any show director reading this, if you want your show to have nice weather, you must invite me to do your show. If you don't do this, I cannot help you.

And Gold Coast right there on Lake Michigan ... be prepared, AmyRenee.

Wonderful to hear of your good sales ... you go, be tough, keep the husband handy and the radar app "live."

  • Well I did the first seven days @ TRAF - Three Rivers Arts Festival. We had a showers for 30 mins in the afternoon the first day and then another one on Monday. Other than the abnormal super hot temps that felt like August, the weather was great!

The first weekend was super busy and I did well! My friend that did the last three days did not faire so well due to the humid & hot weather, a baseball game in town and Pride Weekend happening. It kept people away. There was some rain here and there. BUT the kicker was that the weather was calling for thunderstorms right at tear down time. AND THEY WERE CORRECT!!! OMG!!!

And to boot, we had a Tornado watch. Which we did not know until it was all over. My poor husband was drenched from taking things to the car. And at the main part of the storm, the tent was moving. Now in all honesty, the hubs took one set of weights off and sent them to the car before the wind picked up. Glad to have been there with two others to hold it down.

And thankfully the radar app that I used showed a 15 min gap with no rain so we torn down the rest and made a run for it. Just as we put everything in the cars, the rain started again!

Thank goodness we made it cause the drive home (which is only 10 miles) WAS RIDICULOUS!!!

Now I wonder what is in my path for Gold Coast this weekend!

    OY!
