Merchant account processing

Hi All,

We currently use a Nurit 8000 wireless terminal and are coming to the end of our agreement. One of the providers we have checked out is 1st National. On a side by side comparison with a recent settlement statement it looks like we could have saved $30 + for the same amount of business by going with them. That is just one month's worth. We were wondering if anyone uses 1st National and would like some feedback about service, fees et. Also, they want us to go to a Verifone VX610 wireless terminal, anyone use it? Any information from real world experiences would be helpful in making our up our minds. Sqaure is also an option but we are not completly comfortable with the process at this time. Thanks for the input.

  • What phones are being used with the square? I'm currently using 2, the incredible 2 and the original droid. I have 2 mediums and when I book a show with both I use the 2 phones so I don't have to log in and out of the app.

  • Alison, you had this problem with the Square?

  • I have had shows where the only way to use the machine was in store and forward mode. For me, it's a very useful fallback position. Some shows just don't give me good wireless connectivity. St. James Court comes to mind. I've had problems in Toledo at Crosby occasionally, too.

I usually keep a printed copy of the transaction and a receipt with the transaction details and a phone number for just such contingencies. There have been instances where having the phone number has come in handy. People are not required to give it to, but most will when paying with a credit card.

  • Beware store and forward.  My cc terminal died in the middle of a show with an unrecoverable error.  According to the technical service people it was impossible to retrieve the charges already on the machine - $800 worth.  Luckily I had gotten email address for the largest transactions and was able to get most of it back.

  • Patrick, the ability to store and forward securely, and printed receipts of the credit card transaction for those without email are two...

  • Why would anybody use anything other than Square?!

  • Looks good, Steve, but a quick survey of prices: in the $450-500 range. Something like that in the $150-200 range would be nice. Give it time, it'll happen.

  • Been looking at the Star printers, the SM-T300 is a wireless, portable, rechargable printer, however it will only work with Windows, Android or Blackberry at this time. They need to write drivers for Apple and it could be a great little receipt printer for Square.

  • The Star printers still require AC though, and so far seem to be the only wireless solution for Square. The printer itself is not wirelss, but requires an Ethernet coonection to a network.

Square now has a register app for iPad but it seems aimed at brick and mortar.

  • Hi Jim,

Ever hear of Airstash? It is a device that can network with an Iphone or Ipad stream video to up to 4 devices at once and store data on an SD card, all the size of a usb drive, I believe it runs on a rechargable battery.
