Loving the Time

After an abortive trip to Texas, and a bout of feeling lackluster and burned out, and just laying (lying?) around watching TV, I'm back in the studio and am absolutely loving it. It's fabulous to have TIME to paint, to experiment, to think about how I can improve and then work at doing it. It's grand.

I'm going to go bigger this year, and bolder. I'm delving into figurative work - people in motion, mainly. I'm raising the colors in my palette, and cutting down on my strokes. I'm excited about this new direction - and scared, too, for sure. But fear often jazzes me.

All of this is helping me look forward to the next show season, instead of sort of dreading it, as I was a couple weeks ago. I hope you all are having the same sort of rebirth, in this cold, dark month!

  • After Christmas, I hope!  thanks Carrie.

  • Alison, congratulations again on your two shows. Great to talk with you today! Margaret, hang in there. One to go and then - adventure! Kathleen, take a rest, watch some TV, Don't Make Art, and I swear you will find the energy.

  • Send me some of that energy, you all!!!!

  • One more show this weekend and then it's hunker down time....I can't wait either.......

  • This is usually a quiet time for me and I love it but it has been far from quiet this year so far.  Earlier in the year I was offered a solo exhibition at an exclusive private school in Richmond for December and January.  I decided to do it since hanging the work somewhere has a better chance of it selling than just sitting in the van.  I was all ready for that when I got a call from a local gallery where I had left my card back in May.  Apparently they had hired a new PR person who was doing a complete remake and they wanted my work.  So eight more pieces went out the door to be hung there.  So I've got two opening receptions to prepare for and a lot more stocking up than I had planned on.  Added to that have been Clif wrecking the new bug.  He didn't hit the deer, he swerved to miss the deer and hit a tree.  In our own driveway...  And the toilet in the small bathroom developed a crack and there is no sense replacing the toilet alone when the floor needs to be replaced. So we're down one vehicle and one bathroom.  I am getting out and taking photographs and creating new work but not as often as I would like.  But thank God it is all happening now instead of in the spring when I start doing back to back to back shows.

  • Thanks, Christina! I'm so inspired by what I see other people doing, and what I hear them saying. I'm glad I could be an inspiration to you! Britt, how did you get that cool slideshow of your art on your AFI page? I'd love to put one up on my page, but I don't have a clue how to do it.

  • So inspirational and clever to use these winter months to create new art...I love your ideas, your thought process and your enthusiasm.  We can all take a lesson from this and analyze what we've been doing, what we're inspired by and what we want to do to shake things up a little and start fresh in the new year. You've certainly got me revved up...thanks.

  • Hey, Britt - It's great, isn't it? Send me your outside email and when I have good pix, I'll send you some. I LOVE your art. Love it! And I'd be delighted to see what you come up with. I'm at carrieBjacobson@gmail.com.

  • Im in the same boat and loving it! Looking forward to seeing your new work!
