King Canopy Comments - Tuff Tent.....

Anyone got any comments or ratings for the King Canopy Tuff Tent?  Scored on one from Amazon.com for 199$ and free shipping.. Looked to be better than the EZ-up Express II's I have been using...

Please no tent snobbery remarks. I cant afford 1200$ plus for a tent which takes two people and an hour plus of time to set up....

  • April Holmquist: Thank you for your kind comments regarding my review of King Canopy and Fred's Canopy Awning. It is nice to know that I was able to provide helpful information to you. The review was from 2013 and I am still using the same King Canopy for shows.

  • Well I have been using the same Caravan Classic for 9 years and it has held up very well. I ordered a King Tuff Tent and just received it. I set it up in the yard today for a trial run and there are things I like better about it than the Caravan and there are things I don't like so much. I will be using it in conjunction with my Caravan to make a double booth my next three shows starting next week. I will be ordering another canopy to replace my old after this set of shows and I will let ya'll know which one I decide to go with.

  • Lois Anderson: I know you commented on here like two year ago but I must add a HUGE thank you for your valuable feedback on this thread.  My canopy just broke this last weekend and I am in a frantic search for another canopy in a small town with nothing in stock.  So I am on Amazon trying to get a tent in 4 days for my next show! So the Tuff Tent is going to have to do the trick for now.  I wish they had the Explorer that you mentioned but they don't.  I have been vending for two years now and I started with nothing.  I'm a single mom working my butt off to get my business hopping and it gets better every year but a $1000 canopy is not in the budget yet.  So for those of us trying to use these 10x10 pop-ups those tips are so very helpful. I was just talking to a fellow artist last weekend about how someone must have invented a canopy awning and I am so happy to see that someone has so after this weekend I will be placing an order with Fred's for the Canopy rails and an awning!  Thank you again for the straight up advice.  It is much appreciated.

  • I'll have more to share when I can get images to post on the desktop. First art show of the season isn't for a long time. What I'd love to do would be to beta test this tent for king canopy. The plastic feet are a really bad idea unless you want to make money selling spare parts. And when will canopy manufacturers figure out that straight nails are useless in any sort of wind situation. Oh, I forgot all their standard disclaimers say don't use in wind or rain regardless of who makes it. I wonder if I can get aftermarket metal bolt-on feet for this tent. Of all the critical items to go fragile on.

More later. Already looking to adapt older EZ up awning to new tent. The awnings from canopies by Fred are almost as much as the tent. But the materials cost almost nothing compared to his costs. Couple EMT conduit fittings and, two plates, one with hole and flared or wire-welded EMT conduit. Add a couple screws and wing nuts; add a bit of sewing and some heavy vinyl cloth and you have a higher profit margin item than a ProPanel. I also think some of his designs borrow directly from Shade King out of Texas
  • Good Luck on your first show Mark.

  • Ok tent arrived via UPS today. Box worn a bit but was undamaged. Downside the feet are ABS injection molded plastic. They are also the place for the stakes. Note do not hit with hammer. Plus- pull releases on legs and feet... No more button push blood blisters. Plus nicely molded corners and center for canopy top on the frame. Plus-three part 'box' construction on metal crosspieces. Plus-most if not all joints put together with hex screws, nuts and thread lock.
  • This has been SOOOoooo  helpful!  I'm so grateful to you, Lois as well as to Mark for asking this question to begin with.  I'm starting this summer...just got into my first art festival here in Chicago!  Yipes!

  • Lois.

Great response! I particularly like the links you included and the "Act of Stupidity!" Well done!

  • Hard to say on that. Figured the 30$ extra for brand new in the box was worth the money if I couldn't see what I was buying first hand.

Have also gotten a couple answers for other questions. Couple people on the amazon site indicated that the sidewalls were close to or as heavy as the fabric weight as the canopy top. And as mentioned, there are no banner tabs or loops on the canopy valance. Seems like the awning addition will require additional work or expense. Since I have the tie-down tabs, I will probably put my spiral stakeouts into play this year in lieu of additional weight bags.
  • Mark,

I often buy the warehouse deals from Amazon. The products are always with  a full warranty and the reason for the USED label is that they have been opened before returning. If there is anything wrong with the product ... Amazon will accept your return. In my experience, the only thing wrong is that the package is taped back together and you get a better price. So, am I just lucky or is this the experience of everyone?

    Lois
