How do you sign your works of art

I was wondering how you all sign your works of art.   I have an electric engraving tool that i scratch my name onto the piece of steel that my work is on.   My signature is faint that is the problem.  I am thinking of getting a stamp and put my name in that way.   Has anyone done this and if so would like to know the results.   The other thought is weld a small metal plaque on each piece .   I have seen it once.  Has anyone done a lasar label.   I am just curious to know what people do these days.   Seems like someone has decided to copy my work,  think it is coming from overseas but not sure.

  • thanks  they make a pen that has ink in it, that does not come off readily,  but the point is too wide.  what i have started to do it put my last name on  the bottom of my pieces with a tig torch.   i also put labels on the bottom of all my pieces.   the labels have helped get more business.

  • I currently use a gold pen to sign my work. Unfortunately it's ballpoint, so it has a hard time with bare metal. To get around this, I apply a clearcoat, sign, and apply another clearcoat. The gold ink is visible, but not overbearing.  I also add a label on the bottom of the piece (if it has a base) between the base and the foam pad. The label is visible through a window cut into the foam.

I am considering a stamp as well. I think that is my ultimate goal, but like you, am trying other alternatives in the meantime.

  • Steve, have you walked around shows and just taken a peek at other artist's similar to your work to see how they sign their pieces?  That may give you an idea.
