Easton Art Affair, Columbus, OH

I was wondering if anyone has exhibited in the Easton Art Affair in Columbus. I just got accepted, but have never been to the show. I understand it's a rather upscale section of Columbus, but if anyone can offer any insight to the art fair itself, I'd love to hear it. thanks.

  • Walk away from Easton.  I know only one person who has had a good experience there and, interestingly enough, she is a jeweler like Kathleen.  The organizers are great, it's the location that ruins the show.  The only bags I saw walking out were imprinted with the names of the resident stores.  It was a lo-o-o-o-ong weekend.

  • LOL at the ones who were mad that we "were in their parking spots". I had forgotten that sense of entitlement some of them had :-) I recall someone saying the same thing in a pissy tone of voice. I smiled and told them it was now my spot up through Sunday evening. The sarcasm sailed over their head like an overthrown Frisbee.
  • I dine the show also a couple years ago and like Linda and Robert it was not good. 90% of the people were there for the high end shops and to eat at the resturants.
The money was there but the people were not there for the artists. Had alot ask what was going on and seemed mad that we were in there parking spaces. I stayed the full weekend but 3 people around me left Saturday night.
  • I guess everyone has a different experience. Thanks for writing in.

  • I did this show last year for the first time and had a great experience.  We are set to go again this year.  I make jewelry along with everyone and her cousin, but we did quite well.  I try to have a variety of price points and I sold quite a few of all price points, so that was welcome.  I liked the management and the way the show was run.  It was pretty easy to unload, easy to park and except for someone reversing their entry direction, easy to load up and get out.  There were quite a few customers who were shopping and walked the show on the way to and from their planned destinations.  The painter next to me didn't sell well.  I'm not sure how well the artist on the other side did because she had people sitting in her booth for her all day.  There was a serious rainstorm on either Friday night or Saturday night and we had a couple of inches of water in the back of the booth which drained away over a few hours.

  • I did this show several years ago and I didn't leave early but I should have..... Really bad sales.

I have been doing shows since 1985 and one thing that I have noticed over the years is that sometimes shows held in or near high end shopping centers are not so good for me, I sell wearables and what I have found is  these show have a lot of "label buyers" show up and they may like what I have but will not be my customers. Don't know if this falls into other categories or not????

  • Thanks Kristin and Robert. Robert, your experience sounds awful, and has definitely persuaded me not to do the show. I've never done a show in a shopping center, and it sounds like it's not time to start now. Thanks so much for  the expert advice. If  I get accepted to my local show in Shaker Heights again, which I have done for the past 3 years, I will definitely stick with that.

  • I did it two years ago, here's the review of the show. Your mileage may vary, of course, and some walked away doing okay. Read carefully the part about disgruntled artists packing up and leaving before the show was over on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

  • I live near Columbus, and I have never heard any artists recommend it. And they are all local. I have never done it because of so many sad stories of no customers. It is true that Easton is a great shopping center, but there are a lot of shows in Columbus all competing for the same audience. The big one downtown overshadows them all.
