Do you doodle??

I recently spent 4 long days in the hospital taking care of my husband after surgery. I learned tricks on my iPad that I never had a chance to explore before.

I loved the art apps. Believe it or not I designed couple paintings and when we came back home from the hospital I ran directly to my canvas and started painting some of those ideas.

Doing a little more research here are some great art apps for when you are on the road and feel creative, I hope you like them! :

  • Carla, I just spent several days in the hospital with my mom and I was very thankful I had some crochet and my words with friends.  I could chat and pay attention while doing something with my hands.  I am not good at sitting still with idle hands.  Technology can be great!

  • I get your point Brian. I use it to capture ideas. I don't feel the same way using technology. I really disconnect myself and feel passion when I paint. I don't feel that way whith an app but I can use it on a plane or waiting at the Doctor's office. And I LOVE Frida. That's the reason I paint. I went to her studio when I was 6 yrs old and I was mesmerized. I haven't stopped painting since then.
  • These look like fun! I'll have to spend more time playing with some of them. I like the Frida one, we're big fans of her.

Maybe I'm splitting hairs but i have a hard time with digital technology using words like "painting" or "hand-coloring" as they do not use "paint" nor is the hand involved with the coloring except to maybe move a stylus pen or mouse.  "It’s David Hockney’s painting app of choice" I don't doubt that David Hockney uses digital technology but would he refer to it as  "painting"? Even Ansel Adams experimented with Polaroid technology at one point, all artists experiment with different tools to  come to their final product. I guess I prefer a little more precision in describing my art. When I hand-color my photos it means I used my hands to apply the color to the photograph and when I use Photoshop to selectively delete color from parts of my photos I'd call that something else (Of course I haven't quite figured out what to call it yet!) ;-P

  • Sounds like a great tool - especially to get ideas started.

  • Check out this article about David Hockney and the art he creates on his iPad and iPhone:

  • I like AutoDesk "Sketch Book Mobile" for Android - it even has layers!
