  • Right, Ruth -- no vehicles, the packing has to be a lesson in itself, maybe best for a 2D person to do? I can imagine that the accommodations are not cheap, but heck -- anyone been to Coconut Grove lately? or Key West? I mentioned it basically because it was another one of the shows that make this business interesting and how many of us have done shows just because they were someplace we always wanted to go or was near relatives, etc.? It isn't always about the bottom line.

  • Connie - when we were in CA last fall I asked one of the local artists about the Catalina Island show. Logistics are a nightmare for the artist, accomodations are expensive, etc.  The ferry to the island is not a vehicle ferry, it's passenger only so transporting glass display cases, etc. would be very difficult. Sounds like a great show, just one with a very high hassle factor.

  • I know this is nowhere near where you live, but I just got off the phone with the organizer of the Catalina Art Assn. art fair in September, on Catalina Island. This is really interesting, since everything needs to come to the island on the ferry you don't bring your booth, just your art and I guess they provide the setup. But what fun this sounds like -- just bring the art, stay on the island, hang out after the show ... you've got to admit this life style offers lots of options!

    And, love the necklace!

  • Has anyone done the Los Altos show in Oct that is put on by CA Artists?

We did 3 shows in CA last year, have a few more scheduled for Sept/Oct this year.  Can't tell you which ones are best, we're new to this market, travelling from Seattle, still learning this market ourselves.

Some of the shows I've been told we should consider includes the Saratoga show in May, Los Altos spring show, Palo Alto in August, Contemporary Craft market in Santa Monica.

  • I make a similar product, one-of-a-kind beaded necklaces and I really liked the Celebration of Craftswomen show in San Francisco, Ft Mason, each November. It was PACKED with enthusiastic customers last year. Hurry, I think the application deadline is soon for this year. I hated the Marin Art Festival, which is now taking donations to stay in business. I have heard, but not done, that the Los Altos Art & Wine Festival is a good one.

  • Hi Jo Anne, you may want to check out the Southwest and Pacific Coast Artist group on here. We were just recently discussing CA shows on there.

  • Jo Anne, check out www.Artshowreviews.com.  You will see we have several Californian shows listed.  I hope that gives you a good start.

  • Hi Jo Anne,

    Nice photograph.
