Here are a bunch of articles about shows that took place around the country, August 16-18.

Outside Toledo, OH, in Perrysburg, you'll find the Levis Commons Show run by The Guild. Good article especially the part about member Chris Maher:

Perrysburg’s Clyde Vermillion is an inspiration for retirees looking for a creative outlet to start a new career.

The 68-year-old former steamfitter and welder was an amateur photography buff for years, fascinated by the work he saw on display at juried events such as the Levis Commons Fine Art Fair.

So he took some workshops

PA - MT. GRETNA - Linda Bell could not have been more pleased.

Simply put, the pretty-as-a-picture weather on Saturday drew attendance that could rank among the highest the Mt. Gretna Outdoor Art Show has ever seen, according to Bell, the longtime show chairwoman. And that's saying something for an event in its 39th year.

More than 250 participants... http://www.ldnews.com/latestnews/ci_23882150/art-draws-crowd-mt-gretna?source=most_viewed

Lexington, KY - Woodland Art Fair

Elizabeth Foley says she "kind of flipped out" earlier this week when she read that 60,000 people attend the Woodland Art Fair each year.

"I was like, 'Am I going to have enough?'" she says, laughing, "and then I calmed down and realized only so many of them will come to my tent, only some will buy ... ."

Bayfront - Duluth, MN

Growing up in Nisswa, Holly Bundy was a gifted child who skipped two grades and signed up for all of the advanced classes in high school. Then, her education took a strange turn — she dropped out.

Were you at one of these shows, or another one last weekend? Would you do it again next year?

  • I was in The Mt. Gretna show this past weekend, my fifth show to date. We had all day Friday to set up our tents and, yes, Saturday was such a beautiful day. Sunday's weather was drizzly and brought me mixed emotions- worried because the crowd was light but SO delighted that I was selected as a TOP TEN winner by the jurors and am automatically invited back next year. Top Ten so received a cash prize and ribbon.
Taking down on Sunday was quiet and fast and everyone was patient.
Overall, I would recommend the Mt. Gretna show. It's in a beautiful area, the volunteers are very helpful and the patrons seem like they are there to have a good time and buy. Simultaneously, there was a very large craft show going on across the street in a large field which did not seem to affect the art show.
    Anyone else at Mt. Gretna?
  • Thank you, Ruth! I guess that is where I messed up, the pre show publicity is great and the press loves Shadyside.

  • I think it's great that the Shadyside article is running well ahead of the show - get people interested enough to come.  So often photographers come on Saturday, an article and pictures run on Sunday, and people say, "Oh, if only I'd only know about it sooner. . ."

  • Okay, guys, I didn't read closely ... well, let's hope they are good for all. I just saw the promotional stuff and thought it sounded interesting. Glad to know someone is reading this and fact checking ...

    What's the date today?

  • And, Artstreet in Green Bay is this coming weekend too.
  • Hi Connie,

I'm confused what that Shadyside article is about. The show is this weekend coming up. August 24th and 25th.
