Art Show Reviews

Hi all.  I've recently semi-retired from the 9-5 routine & I've been expanding my show circuit to include out-of-state shows.  Before signing up for a new show, I come over to ArtFairs to check out reviews. I've been confused about why some reviews are in the main "blog" section rather than in the "Art Show Reviews," which is where I look first (& have posted a couple of reviews).  I've compared the Blog reviews to the Art Show Reviews and don't see that they have the same posts.  I find it helpful to search Reviews by state, but I'm realizing that the Blogs generally have more current information.  Unfortunately, a search of the Blogs by state comes up with all information that references that state (call for artists, comments, etc.).  Am I missing something, a different way to use the sites?  Any suggestions?

  • Hi Connie, thanks for the input.  To clarify, I come to ArtFairInsiders, and then click on the ArtShowReviews link.  But I'm understanding your system better now.  In terms of googling, good when looking for shows, but unlike ArtFairInsiders/Reviews, not for finding artist reviews of those shows.  Too bad there wasn't a way the reviews could be added to both sites at the same time, but that's a tech issue.  Tags - need to remember that.

  • As the administrator here, Kate, I would prefer if people would always post show reviews in this section, the blog. But, I can't control where they post.

Now, I'm also a little confused. This site is ArtFairInsiders.com, another of our sites is ArtShowReviews.com. You say to come over to ArtFairs. Do you mean this site? ArtFairInsiders.com?

When the blog posts for shows are written (and also if someone posts it in the discussions), there is a section at the end to put in "tags." Tags are nouns that search engines look for and "tag" so that when someone does a post that particular review/topic pops up in the search results. Few people add tags to their posts (e.g., Tennessee, or "Indiana art fair"), but when I or my assistant add a blog we always add the state name to enable searches. And, yes, you get a lot of answers.

This platform used for this site doesn't have any better controls. What might work for you, instead of searching on this site is to go to google and try this search: Texas art fairs, or Florida art festivals. That might help.

AND I want to thank you so much for all of the reviews you have sent us for ArtShowReviews.com. That is a very generous gift you are giving to everyone who frequents that site. I know many artists don't share there because we require a name with each review to ensure its authenticity but am open to anyone's suggestions on how we can get past that.
